Hey folks ,
I just wanted to introduce myself and my project on the forum , this is a project that I'd like to develop as a 15 minute short and after that possibly a series.I must say that I absolutely love DMC and the potential it has is staggering , I'm looking forward to the integration of some of the features described in it's Siggraph presentation. I hope there's no objection with my posting my project information and updates here , seeing as I will be using DMC in the production , also I post updates on the projects website http://www.wakinghourmovie.com. I hope that you like what I have to offer :)

About Me
I'm a 3D and Visual Effects artist living in Abu Dhabi,UAE originally from Johannesburg, South Africa and my writing is inspired by the work of JJ.Abrams and shows like Flash Forward and Fringe, I like to explore ideas of where we may have come from and how we could be tied to the universe.

I have been working with 3D for the past 13 years and I am mostly self taught ,I previously studied media technology at Damelin College and 3D and Visual Effects at MAAC (Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics) , I have since continued my studies online through escape studios and training media available from Gnomon Online, also becoming proficient in the use of PFtrack,Maya Live,Nuke and Zbrush.

I have been using blender as my primary 3D tool for close on 5 years now,
I recently finished working at New York Film Academy Abu Dhabi , where I learned a great deal about writing, directing, lighting, filming and editing.

The Story

Waking Hour is (hopefully) to be a 3D (non-stereoscopic),motion capture powered, science fiction series and this is the 14 minute pilot, the tale of young Abbigail Brink, torn from her bed and dragged into a life threatening situation by Lt.Rushton . Stuck between two opposing forces she is faced with an imminent threat, with nowhere to go something deep inside her takes action, with devastating consequences.

The Impact

Other than developing a successful and visually stunning series using blender as my primary production tool, my goal is to release the motion capture library built during the production of the short and the series,to the open source community for use in games and Movies, free of charge.I come from an open source background and feel the need to contribute to the community.

Hello and welcome :) So far so good! Keep us updated. I'm working on a feature using 6 eyecams. The script has gone through it's 3 revisions and have started story-boarding. Soon, I'll be casting the voice actors. As soon as I can get the website up I'll post it.

When you get more capping done I'd be interested in seeing your results!

Hey Pat ,

Thanks for the response , I have been hard at work with various things since my last update here , I did a capture session and made the files available on animstreet.com where you can see interactive 3D previews of them here :
http://www.animstreet.com/user/1957/queue/1/view/1615

In addition Waking Hour placed as an official finalist in the treatment category , of the Hollywood Screenplay Contest :

In anticipation of the character modelling phase of the project , I started doing anatomy studies for digital sculpting and some of the results can be found here :

Updates may be a little slow here as I am currently doing R&D for a local studio on a 3D Stereoscopic workflow and pipeline for them to use in their animation production.

Hi Mr Nexy,

Thanks for posting your stuff on here, it's intriguing as you guys are so focused on what you want to achieve. One thing I would say though, is please give that greenscreen a good iron before you start shooting! ;) Seriously though, I wish you luck :)

I came across this a few months ago....it's pretty much the holy grail. It's as concise as 'Andrew Kramer is', and as far as I'm concerned the bible of post production and visual effects...at a small price (and I'm not even an affiliate!)

Enjoy!......and keep posting :)

Carder - Thanks hehehe I usually steam iron my screen but have been running a little busy lately :) , a few extra keys and matte refinement will take care of those wrinkles :)

This is Abbigail Brink , the main character in Waking Hour.
Over the course of the next week , I'll be posting more concept art and WIP images here and on the Waking Hour Blog Concept art Compliments of Scott Harris

Image

For the most part she is a sweet girl of 18 or 19 ,blond haired tan skinned and blue eyed , fresh out of high-school . Her musical tastes are a little eclectic , ranging from Rap and Hip-Hop to Punk Rock and Neil Young , as eclectic as her taste in music is her sense of dress.

When she was a child she was exposed in a radiation wave, her father tried to protect her and died in the process . she fell ill for a short while but the doctors accredited it to sunstroke and as a result of this Abbigail became more of an indoors person and something of a night owl.

Often sleeping during the day and struggling to sleep at night ,she takes the early late shift at a local convenience store to justify her sleeping habits.

Another Day and another piece of concept art , this is Lt.Rushton.

Enjoy !

Image

Lt.Edward Rushton came from a comfortable background , growing up he did not want for much else but to hang out with his friends , he excelled academically and as such his parents allowed him the freedom to do as he pleased.
Provided ofcourse that he behaved himself , at the age of 18 Edward Rushton or "The Rush" as all his friends called him, began hanging out at "Live Bars" listening to local bands and drinking socially.Times were good , but tensions between his nation and their neighbor to the north grew, unfortunately war broke out not long after his 20th Birthday when the city was attacked in a series of strategic bombings.
He joined the army along with his friends to defend his homeland , he lost many of them during the fighting that followed and by the age of 25,he is a synical young man that finds himself faced with the task of extracting a particularly important civilian from a hot zone that is about to erupt.

Hey folks , got another update for you here.
This is the PRF Officer (People's Revolutionary Front) he is the main antagonist in the story.

Image

The PRF officer is a man who takes pride in his work and pleasure in the suffering in others , he is very well disceplined and as such he keeps his uniform imaculate.
He grew up in very unforgiving and tough circumstances as a child , he was left by his parents with his disceplinarian grandmother ,she was a tough woman who hated his mother for leaving him with her.
As a result of his regular beatings,he channeled his resentment and anger into bullying other children.Living in the country side afforded him the oppertunity to familiarise himself with fire arms , he became an excellent shot and joined he military at a young age.
He progressed rapidly through the ranks and soon proved himself as a ruthless and efficient leader.Once he reached a high enough rank in the military he returned to his grandmother's home , the woman had not changed at all and proceeded to nag at him and wear him down until he lost his composure and strangled her with his bare hands. He buried her in the woods in an unmarked grave and never returned .
