Turn Me On Dance Test performed by Megan

Video export using iPi video export out of Studio.

Cleaned so far only with iPi Auto Clean Tools.

The few mesh breaks are only due to test character skeleton is smaller than the iPi skeleton, putting arms closer to the body than recorded.

If character mesh had breast physics and collision, it wouldn't make as much of a difference, but easily edited out the way it is later.

Consolidated Dance tests with 6 PS Eyes, all only pre-cleaned with iPi Studios Auto Clean Pipeline... Some replayed without further editing in FBX Review for better texture appearance.

(Except Goodies dance, was further cleaned more and looped, due to DAZ3D being an outlier of an animation program to get best results).

Sorry for the video quality, the actual animation quality is better than shown in the videos due to frame drops of the screen recordings, although these are just tests to show some of the capabilities of iPi.

The time of processing with iPi Studio to real-time IMU, marker, or markerless (Organic Motion) optical systems is comparative after the data is exported from any system, there is no system made, I know of anyway, that doesn't require data clean up in one way or another, either within the program features themselves, or externally and all really require both ways to achieve a quality final product, and any animations you buy online WILL need additional detailed cleaning to fit the characters used before they "should" be used in a scene, or game IMO.

If you are wondering why I post mostly dance videos, the reason is dancing is some of the hardest motions to capture for many mocap systems, especially lower cost systems, and to output files with a smooth appearance and not a lot of post work and I can loop the animation fairly easily and cleanly.

Simple actions tracking/processing is easy, I have posted enough of these dances, so I will post more sample "regular" single actor motions to demonstrate the outcome in the future.

I post them to show some users the capabilities achieved fairly easily with iPi and a PS Eyes set up, single performer recordings, used in a fairly confined area of 4m x 7m (12 x 22 ft.)

I happen to record and process this type of action fairly regularly and I enjoy doing it, do you get fine looking dancers perform for you fairly regularly? :)

I work with a dance studio that uses these animations to isolate the animated actor on a 3D video player that allows viewing from any angles, unlike a regular singular video would, for use as instructional videos to demonstrate/share some free-style moves to other dancers, saving them money on studio rental and tutors, and they also use some to display on large monitors in night clubs using VFX and lighting techniques applied by using a green screen effect I use after export.

I also use specialty programs to design and clothe the characters for them with the use of dynamic cloth, body parts and hair for pretty realistic looks.

The finished products/videos are owned by the studio, so I can't show or re-distribute them, I can only post test files of the dances and without fully showing the dancers performing them per contract agreement.

Anyone that would like to post dance videos, or any motions recorded/tracked with fast, extreme motions is more than welcome, I would be interested to see anyones project tests using multiple PS Eyes, or Kinects and demonstrate only the results using the integrated smoothing tools inside iPi Studio 3, screen recorded out of the iPi Studio viewport.

Even if it takes a longer time to process, (although it really shouldn't take more than an hour for a primary processing of any video up to 1 min in length and a good processing machine), you really can't get more accuracy tracking the actual performer than from the actual recorded RGB video, even if it takes some slight clean up later to better match the character it is applied to.

If anyone has ever used other mocap real-time tracking solutions, you would understand the post processing clean up needed can take way longer than what the actual recorded performance looked like, even before you get to apply it to a character for more specific clean up, but of course there are other benefits to these systems that iPi can not offer, but you are going to pay a healthy price for purchase, or even rent this type of studio.

I am a small developer/creator, so iPi fits right in to my workflow well.

Example of video dance effects we are attempting to produce with iPi Studio animated dances, using 2D and 3D footage, characters and VFX.

Hey Snapz, which programs/plug ins do you use for cloth and hair, etc? I'm currently using Qualoth by fxgear in maya and it's coming out pretty well. Used to be too slow in my older setup with win7, but ever since I upgraded to win10, it's been pretty fast to make simulations. It's a lot of work and trial and error trying to simulate dynamic cloth, and was wondering what your work flow is. I also use Marvelous Designer to make clothings (it's more like traditional clothing making with patterns), but it's much easier than doing polygonal modeling.

I'll post some samples of my stuffs later.

anyways, good to hear you're putting ipi to make professional content used for commercial purposes. : )

Yep, Marvelous Designer and iClone 6 using custom made base characters, easiest way ever to go over creating from scratch with 3D packages and can also use the alembic transfer from iClone 6 to 3ds Max, or Maya now for cloth dynamics made easy with texture transferring also.

You can also do similar with DAZ3D, but I find it a bit of a clunky program, but it is free for the base program, but you must pay for all the mandatory plug ins needed for it to even half work well, and that can get pricey fast.

When iClone released ver 6, I got in on it at the early bird special a couple years ago now, but before ver 6, iClone didn't impress me, very big development improvements on v6 for sure, but they kind of screwed us by releasing v7 kind of early, like right after the v 6.5 updates, but it is still a good deal if you get in right now for v 7, I am just not going to upgrade yet, as I don't use it for what they put into v 7 as of yet, even though I will pay more later by doing so.

I can usually get between 15-25 dance takes per 2 hour session, depending on dancer and length of dance, and them being professionals can usually get them in one take after a bit of pre-training with the system and having a controller on gloves, but they catch on fast.

Tracking now with the work flow I have set for myself takes about a hour or so inside iPi Studio per dance, but well worth the extra time, as the exported animation needs very little post clean up, but always some of course.

Since these recent updates, they have made the hips and feet contact much better, not as floaty now, and Move controller apply is instant now, so this should prove to be much better going forward on my next recordings/trackings.
