Post subject:  Does it matter if its black and white or color?

Hello,
I'd like to know if the Ipisoft software works with cameras that only display black and white. I currently have an optitrack system but limited space to work in. I don't want to purchase the ps3 eye cameras and then not use it so I'd like to test the software out with the mocap cameras I have now. Can I use cameras that only display a black and white image?
Best Regards,

The capture method works on contrast, not colour, so it's theoretically possible but you'd have to be careful in your choice of clothing and surrounding to ensure decent contrast between each body section and the scenery.

I think color is considered by DMC to some degree. For example, I use red sleeves against a green background which gives good color contrast and works well in iPi DMC, but in black and white these colors would probably have similar gray values and not nearly as much contrast.

That's just my own thought. Hopefully one of the iPi guys will post a definitive answer. :)

The answer of Greenlaw is absolutely correct. For successful tracking you should have high difference (in terms of distance in color space!) between actor and background. Thus color information is extremely important.

4 PS Eye cams cost about $120.
