I wonder how difficult it would be to add functionality to retarget animation from one custom character to another. I love that I can bring in a custom rig at the moment and retarget motion from the ipi skeleton to my custom fbx file with an fk skeleton and model skinned to it.

What I would love to do is be able to specify two custom skeletons and transfer the motion from one to the other. One major reason for this is that it would allow me to get rid of large depth and color files once I am satisfied with my track and be able to keep the much smaller fbx to retarget animation from. I don't know how things are under the hood, but it seems like a lot of the functionality to do this is in place with the ipi rig to custom skeleton retargeting already.

Thanks,

Adnan Hussain

Retargeting from an arbitrary skeleton is not a straightforward task.
For the specific case you've mentioned (getting rid of video file) we can consider an option to open a project file without the video. In this mode, only the post-processing and export controls would be enabled.

That would be very helpful, to be able to export animations even if you no longer have the movie file.
