Hi folks:

I'm looking at buying a new computer for a 6 camera system, and I wanted to know if a six core AMD processor or a quad core i7 would be better. I've seen posts here claiming that i7's will work just fine. I've currently got a AMD 9500 quad core, and the problem is has is with not capturing 6 cameras at 60fps, so I'm concerned about that.

Thanks,

Michael

Hi folks:

It looks like I can't find an AMD motherboard with SATA 6GB/s headers, only i7 related motherboards.

Looks like i7 wins,

Michael

For me the processor (i7) doesn't miss a beat. The BIG WIN is the SSD for capturing to.

OK, I ordered my new PC, and hopefully it will be built by Friday.

Specs:

1) Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 mobo with Sata 6.0GB/s and USB3
2) 2 USB 3.0 PCI express cards for a total of 3 USB3 controllers
3) Intel i& 870 2.93GHz Quad core
4) 8 GB RAM
5) 1 TB boot drive
6) 2 128GB SATA2 SSD drives in a SATA6.0GB/s RAID
7) Nvidia GT560Ti 1GB video card
8) Windows Pro 64-bit

Not quite sure - will the ipisoft mocap software run on a 64-bit machine?

Thanks,

Michael

Wow! Sounds like a sweet system. Congratulations on your new box. :)

As for iPi Studio on a 64-bit system, the software is 32-bit but it runs great under 64-bit Windows. I think you're all set.

FYI, for the most part, 32-bit software runs fine under 64-bit Windows. In many cases, I have both x32 and x64 versions of programs installed on my computers. For example, I have both x32 and x64 versions of Photoshop CS4, Lightwave 10, Eyeon Fusion 6, and Sony Vegas 10 Pro installed on the same system. The reason is that some plug-ins and codecs only run in 32-bit, so I typically use the x64 programs until I need to use a specific x32 plug-in or codec.
