Hi,

I'm considering buying a kinect and subscribe to iPi, but how much difference is there with 4 cameras vs 1? I've seen good animations captured with only one camera. Is it Kinect Version 2 that works best?

Hi

Single Kinect allows to capture limited set of motions, when an actor is primarily facing the camera. This is due to occlusion problems, because during complex motions some body parts fall out of view of a single camera.
Dual Kinects allow to minimize occlusion problems, and thus capture much wider range of motions.
Setup with 3-4 Kinects is indented mainly for capturing multiple persons, when occlusion problems increase significantly and therefore more points of view are needed.

However, any Kinect setup has pretty limited capture area (about 2.5x2.5m max) and frame rate of 30 fps. So, if you are going to capture distant or very fast motions, consider using PS Eye setup - up to 7x7m area, with 60 fps.
