Nothing much to regret, Greenlaw. I don't think this camera may be very useful for our system.
First, it has 2 RGB sensors (it's stereo), and it makes no sense to have 2 identical sensors practically at the same point in space. Just the data doubled.
Second, HD resolution is still not sufficient to get fingers tracked. Though it may add some accuracy to head and feet tracking. But the amount of data is about 7 times greater than VGA (considering only 1 RGB sensor). It is hard to imagine how the input from 6 such cameras can be handled by a single PC.
The two practical feature enhancements are
- Wider FOV to reduce minimum capture space requirements. However, this may be accompanied with greater distortion.
- 640x400 @120fps mode suitable for very fast motions like karate kicks/punches. Again, questions arise about the possibility to record all this data.
