@Greenlaw
Yeah, I was going to clarify that "any microphone" (say the built in ones on all the PS3 cams??) I just ran out of time to write and forgot.

@skin12002
Yes I know that it needs a few seconds initially, but for subsequent takes it would be a real time saver. You could just pop up a warning in ipi record that it needs that and any confusion would be averted.

Oh, yeah, that's right. Duh! :)

I'll try the test I described in my last post for our next iPi Recorder session. (Probably tonight.)

Not at all!

For example, my 'hiding' area is across the room from the computer, which means I currently have to start a session from the computer, walk across the stage to hide from view, and then walk bacl into frame to make my T-Pose. Then, when I'm done I have to walk off the stage back to the computer to stop the recording.

It would be so much easier to just go into my 'hidey hole', shout 'Action', and then step in. When I'm done with a capture, I just announce 'Action' again to stop the recording. The result would be far less wasted footage that I don't want iPi DMC to track.

One additional feature that would be helpful is a large visible on-screen indicator so you can see from across the room that the system is actually recording. Maybe a red dot, or a red outline around the program window? Preferably not blinking because if the monitor is visible to a camera, the blinking might distract DMC. (In one of my earliest iPi tests, there was a computer screen in the background with a screen saver active that completely messed calibration. To be fair, I think the current DMC may be less likely to be distracted by this.)

It would be nice if basic speech recog was built into Recorder, but I just spent a few minutes with the built-in Speech Recognition in Windows 7 and this already seems doable. I'll let you know how it goes tonight.

If anybody else wants to try, type in Speech in your Start menu to set it up. Here's a YouTube video I found that demonstrates how the system works: Windows 7 Speech Recognition

Just tested it with a PS3 Eyecam sitting in front of me.... Wow that works awesome! I didn't even know that was built in to Windows 7! Yes please let me know your results.

Edit: just tested this with iPi recorder and it works amazing I even opened the program and started running it without my hands! All you have to do is say "start listening" "open eye-pie recorder" and "enter" then to start filming you just say "enter" to start or stop. Sorry to hijack this thread. D:

This brings up a feature I requested some time ago: a loader for a separate clean video clip.

If we had this feature, we wouldn't have to bother recording clean video footage for every single video clip during a session. Instead, a single clean plate video could be recorded before or after the session. After that, each video recording could start off with a T-Pose and go right into action.

The result is much shorter videos and more efficient tracking. When tracking, the same clean video footage would only need to be loaded once and reused for every video shot during the Recorder session.

Now I understand that if the Recorder session was shot in a less controlled environment, like outdoors or in a public area, you may want a clean video for every shot to make sure the lighting is the same, and this is why Load Clean Video could be an optional feature. For example, iPi DMC could first check if a clean video clip has been loaded in the Load Clean Video cache. If it doesn't find one, then it switches to the existing system where it looks at the defined frame range on the timeline.

Hi,
I would like to ask about when we can expect the IPI Desktop Motion Capture version for Kinect and how many cameras will be needed?

I don't know when the 'Express' edition of iPi Studio will be released but it's been explained elsewhere that due to the use of IR to detect depth, you can only use one Kinect camera for motion tracking.

In short, using a Kinect will probably be more expensive and far less accurate than using four PS3 Eye cameras. On the plus side, a single Kinect may require a lot less space than multiple PS3 cameras.

I'm hoping that ipi will combine both 1 Kinect and 6 ps3 cameras.

I thought that Kinect will be more accurate.
