It's true but first we should wait for the early feedback and official release this functionality.

Brilliant work guys.
We just tested our setup with two Kinects at 90 degrees. As imagined, most of the occlusion issues are solved. A few notes...
With the 90 degree setup, it seemed we had to stand a bit further away to stay in the field of view of both cameras. This narrowed the effective capture area. When we strayed too far back the cloud data looked like a blob and the software was unable to track the legs.
When crouching, the solver introduced a tremendous amount of jitter. This made small discreet movements impossible (we may have been too far from the cameras).

This was our experience with our VERY rough and quick test. It is important to note that these problems could most likely be solved on our own end with more creative placement of the sensors and more experience with how to act to both cameras. Again, our test was very rough and very quickly set up.

All in all, we are very pleased and quite excited with how this will impact our workflow.

Some technical notes...

System:
Windows 7 64-bit
Quadro 4000
Dual Xeon E5530 @ 2.4GHz
24 gigs of ram

Calibration took approximate 5-7 seconds per frame
mocap processing approx 0.8-0.9 seconds per frame

Great job!

UPDATE:
I tracked the exact same recording on another computer and got better results. Far less jitter.

System info:
Windows 7 64-bit
Core-i7 Q720@1.6GHz
ATI Radeon mobility 5870
8 gigs of ram

Could this have something to do with the video card?

i tried recording with the new recorder software and I only have one kinect.

Therefor I am unable to record depth movies at the current time.

Is there a new Recorder for one camera, Or should I reinstall the old recorder.

ALSO The HEad Movement is now at least Keyframable!!!!
its no longer like keyframing the hand movement.

The hand movent does keyframe but you have to remove the middle frames in an external program.

Try to create head Turn Key Frames in iPi... Its a breeeeze!

This is nice and a feature I had requested.

Thanks iPi

New version of iPi Recorder should work with one Kinect. Could you please describe in more details your problems with recording?

Yes I get a messy phycadelic picture.

Then when I load the new depth movie in iPi It shows 4 screens with an overlayed one picture.

with no depth data...

I also get a pop up screen when I load into new iPi. Does that mean I cannot use the 2 kinect version if I have Express version.?

Cheers

Congratulations on getting the first beta out!

I thought I wasn't going to test this version until after I finished 'Happy Box' but now that it's out, I just can't resist; I picked up the my second Kinect Sensor this afternoon. (This is especially funny since I don't even own a single XBox.) :)

There is one motion I wanted to reshoot for Happy Box and if the dual Kinect system works only a little better than a single Kinect, it will still be a big improvement for this particular shot. I'll let you know how well this works out soon.

Once the bugs and everything is ironed out would the dual kinect be a good as the 4 or 6 PS3 setup? Just wondering if I should try to pick up a couple of kinect's instead of the PS3 cameras.

picked a second kinect up today as well. Don't pay full price for these things as there are hardly any games worth playing on it and people are starting to dump them on Craigslist I had a choice between three different options and ended up paying $70. I had a bunch of trouble calibrating with white cardboard reflecting infrared into the other camera at 90 degrees. I will try with something else tomorrow.

It's probably a little soon to say for certain, especially from me since I haven't even opened the box for the second Kinect yet. I'll go out on a limb and make a few guesses though.

It was suggested a while back that dual Kinect Sensor support should give results comparable to 4 PS3 Eye cameras. However, the capture space would probably not be any bigger than with a single Kinect; based on what I see in the Quick Start guide, it looks like the second sensor needs to cover the same space as the first, just from a different angle. (Based on an earlier comment by Tentacle, the capture space may possibly be smaller than with a single Kinect.)

So, even though dual KS accuracy may be as good as four PS3 cameras, you're still limited by a fairly small capture space. Depending on what you want to capture, this may be a non-issue, but it's something you should be aware of.

If you're uncertain about purchasing, I would wait until you hear from more users who have access to both system and have made comparisons. I'll try to post my thoughts and comparisons soon.

(FYI, I have a 'mini-film' in production which was shot entirely with iPi DMC and Kinect and it will premiere at Gothtober.com on the 29th of this month. I haven't decided yet but I may reshoot one or two motions using the dual KS system if the beta software is working well enough before I run out of time.)

You can try to update the drivers for Kinect:

Also use the latest version of iPi Studio to open video from the new iPi Recorder. It looks like that you used the previous version to open your video.
