Just a dick move all around iPi Soft.

You can subscribe to a high-end program like After Effects for $20 a month ($240 a year). I think it is senseless to charge $1200 a year, or $550, depending on the version you have, for a piece of software that, while good, isn't high-end. It is beyond reason, IMO.

This is ridiculous. I was waiting to purchase V2 Standard for the 8 camera setup, now I'm stuck with V2 basic with 4 cameras, and I suppose I can't purchase V2 standard to get the 8 camera setup functionality can I? I am forced with buying V3 and on top of that, have to pay yearly just to have access to the software.

The model might work for you but you've written off any independent game developer or filmmaker with a smaller budget. I feel screwed over to be honest like everyone else here.

I got the demo last year, tried it out, loved it. Was saving money to purchase a license for it. But now.... sorry, I am not going subscription based, no way, never.

Look at it a strong stand point. One, for the prices you are wanting to charge based on subscription, no indie company can afford to do so. Big companies will also stay away. Yes they can afford it, but there is several other options out there that are cheaper than what you want to charge (long run that is) that is still a one time license, that does a much better job.

Your market was for the ones that can not afford the software, cameras, and suits. Now you made it un affordable for your market, and just is not good enough to compete with the big boys in a higher market. This was not a wise move, as you can see from every post on here.

Wow! I just heard this news. I'm pretty surprised and disappointed. I certainly won't be upgrading. I think you just wiped out your loyal customer base.

Subscription is only really viable if the vendor is an established & trusted/stable company. There is no guarantee or expectation that ipisoft is going to still be in business in a year's time - either through an IP buyout or company closure - which would most likely result in loss of product to customers.

Such a sales strategy makes little sense for an emerging technology/company - and one I would find hard to justify to my studio bosses

I have been evaluating ipisoft and was keen on suggesting it for my studio - but this change to subscription means I am going back to re-evaluate other options for the long term

I agree with the general reaction to the IPI announcement. I was pretty close to getting a license
to set up a small mocap studio, but this is a real deal breaker for me. I hope that ipisoft has
another look at this and at least gives people a choice, similar to unity for example, where you
can either buy the software for 1500$ or rent it at about half the price.

I really can't see who is going rent the software for a year after having bought the previous
version for the same price. My guess is IPI will have another look at this at the end of the
special offer period. In the meantime I will have a closer look at other mocap options.

My problem now is even if iPi Soft changes their mind the damage is done. I don't think I could with good conscious reinvest in their software knowing their mindset.

Was sold a simple business concept from the beginning.
Think they just getting greedy and think people will keep supporting they development.
Far as I'm concerned, Have felt like a beta tester from day one (suckered into buying it) with the constant updated and fixes. Took them much longer than promised for 2 person recording. Which never really was viable.
