Hi guys. so i already have the pro version and 8 PSeyes but i did not install or activate it yet.

I cant get a space with 4*4meter. I have few questions

1) If I have 3*3.2 meter room with the PSeye, will it not work? what is the problem ? will I go out of view? (all 8 are still in boxes)

2) Can I connect 4 KinectsV2 to get the accuracy of the 8 PSeyes?
and If so, will i be able to connect them on my single Asrock taichi X399 with AMD TR2950X? is this 1 kinectV2 per controller or 1 per pc?

Thanks

Hi
For good tracking results an actor should be fully visible in ALL cameras most of the time. And to achieve that the actor should be at least 2m away from PS Eye cameras considering their field of view. Hence the minimum space requirements.
You may try to use a semi-circle setup in a small room. However, in this case an actual capture area would be tiny. And you can expect more tracking errors compared to a full circle setup.

thank you!

About question 2, how to connect 4 kinectsV2 to my pc in terms of hardware?
I saw this http://docs.ipisoft.com/Multiple_Kinect ... _Single_PC

But should i have 1 USB 3 controller for each Kinect?

Sorry, forgot about Kinects question.

2 Kinects in 180 degrees setup are more or less equal in terms of accuracy to a full circle of 4-6 color cameras. Color cameras have some advantages in tracking smaller details like feet. Also tracking of complex motions with high amount of self occlusions benefits from more points of view. Hence color cameras or 3 depth sensors are preferred for such motions. 4 Kinects make sense ony for capture of 2 actors. PS Eye also is preferrable for fast motions where it benefits from higher frame rate.

However, if you believe that using Kinects instead of PS Eye allows you to shot in a smaller space - that's not exactly the true. They are easier to setup and require less space for installing cameras themselves because there are fewer items. However they also require at least 2-2.5m distance to an actor.

We haven't ever tested with AMD mobos so I'm not sure how many Kinects it can handle and whether they are well compatible at all. Probably 3 assuming USB 3.1 is a separate controller.
Kinect v2 for sure works good with Intel and NEC/Renesas USB 3.0 controllers. In case you need additional USB 3.0 controllers and have unoccupied PCIe slot you can install a card with 2 or 4 NEC chips onboard.

If you don't have a lot of space, you might consider switching to depth sensors.

Back when I used the PS3 Eye setup, I recorded mainly in our garage, which I think is 16 x 2 ft (roughly 5 x 6 meters.) If I completely cleared out the space, I technically able to use up to 6 cameras but not in a perfect circle. More practically, I used four sensors in a semicircle, because I also needed the space for special lighting equipment, as well as a workbench and general storage space. If you have at least this much space, you might be able to make it work. For me, this wasn't very convenient because at the time I was constantly moving my workstation into the garage and then moving it back to out computer room in the house.

This is why I switched to depth sensors. With limited recording space, depth sensors have many advantages. For example, they can record in fairly small areas, don't require special color clothing, and the room lighting requirements are less critical. As a matter of fact, with depth sensors, room lighting is not used at all for body capture. It's also faster and easier to setup and break down a depth sensor setup. And because of the nature of depth sensors, you can use fewer devices to capture a wider view of the performance.

Since I switched to depth sensors, I'm able to do 'full body' 360 degree recordings in our small-ish living room space, and I can set up and start recording sessions in less than five minutes. When I'm done put all the gear away in minutes so my family can go back to enjoying the living room again.

On the other hand, it's true there are downsides to using depth sensors: the maximum recording space is smaller with depth sensors and quality of the data is not as accurate as PS3 Eye for fast motions. And depending on the sensor model, depth sensors can potentially require a lot more computer power to use multiple sensors.

But for me, the convenience and ease of use is worth the trade off. And the 'reduced accuracy' doesn't necessarily mean the data is bad, it's just less accurate for certain types of motions (mostly quick motions or unusually complex activity.)

Anyway, just a suggestion.

In my case, I used Kinect for Windows for several years, switched to Kinect One a few years ago, and recently upgraded to a pair of Azure Kinect sensors. I'll post a review with device comparisons later this year, and will let everybody know when that is available.

wow, thank you both for the incredibly detailed and informative answers.
I guess that now I need to take this info and testing myself
