I have a free space with the size of 7 meters in 10 meters can someone please mark it on the below pic that how 12 cameras should be positioned inside this room?

Or maybe I should use 16 PS cameras instead of 12? |

A circular arrangement or along the walls and in the corners should be fine. If you go with the latter, make sure you have space for the operator to sit outside of the capture area. You should stagger the heights of the cameras, with some high up looking down, and some low looking up. This will give you improved coverage. In general, avoid creating a regular pattern with placement and heights of each camera. This makes it easier for the software to identify each camera when running a calibration. If they're all identical in height and evenly spaced in a circle, the software may get confused. The distance for each camera may be a balancing act because the farther away the camera are from the subject, the less resolution you have for accuracy. However, I wouldn't obsess too much about that because a higher framerate is actually a lot more important that video resolution for accurate capture. The important thing is to make sure all the cameras can see the performer. 16 cameras may be overkill unless you're recording two performers at once. One question you should ask is, do you really want to set up and take down 16 cameras everytime you want to record mocap? Of course, that may not be an issue if these cameras are going to be fixed in place permanently. There are many variables to consider so experiment and see what works best in your environment and with the computer hardware you're using. For example, factors to consider besides the room size can be shininess or reflectivity of floors, walls and other surfaces, and the type of lighting on the performer (you want the lighting to be mostly ambient; directional lighting on the performer may make it difficult to track properly.) Also, you want to be sure there is contrast with the room walls and the clothing your performer will be wearing. Hope this helps. |
