Post subject:  Kinect V2 vs Azure Kinect

Hi
I'm currently using one Kinect V2. I'm thinking in buying a Azure Kinect.
I understand it's somehow better, but Is it worth the update ? Couldn't find comparison capture files between both devices.

Thanks

Hi
There is not much difference actually in terms of the tracking quality. You can expect a slight overall improvement, especially in feet tracking. Also, Azure Kinect is more tolerant to lighting conditions (e.g. sunlight).
Please find detailed comparison of specs and pros/cons here

You can also find sample recordings for Kinect 2 and Azure Kinect here

I guess I will wait for a better depth camera then.
Thanks for the reply

There is no software for the Kinect V2, the only one that has support for it is Brekel.

The Azure Kinect has all kinds of better performance specs but it also has no 3D scanning software.

All the consumer level majors are avoiding providing a specific 3D scanning application. Apple, Microsoft, Sony are using the depth sensor mainly for facial and hand recognition and volumetric industrial applications (machine sensors). For whatever reason, the independent devs have been slow, or not at all, with just a 3D scanning application. Even when they do, lots of things are gimped, like exporting 3D models. Some kind of dam block there in the industry, but Apple looking at lidar and depth sensor on the iPad might be an indicator the logjam is breaking up.
