Post subject: | How to move a character using data exported to MotionBuilder |
I converted the iPi docs sample video into motion data with iPi Mocap Studio, exported it, and displayed it with MotionBuilder. I want to apply this motion data to the characterized character displayed in MotionBuilder. I think it can probably be applied in a few steps, but I would like to know how to do it. Any advice or recommendations you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance. |

Hello, To apply exported animation to your own character, you need to retarget animation as described here. |

Thank you for your inquiry. To apply motion data from iPi Mocap Studio to a characterized character in MotionBuilder, you can follow these general steps: Import Character: Start by importing your characterized character into MotionBuilder. Load Motion Data: Load the motion data you exported from iPi Mocap Studio into MotionBuilder. This is usually done through the File menu. Retargeting: You'll need to set up a retargeting process to map the motion data to your character's skeleton. This involves defining how the iPi motion data matches the bone structure of your character. Characterize the Skeleton: In MotionBuilder, characterize your character's skeleton. This involves mapping the character's skeleton to the motion data. Apply the Motion: Once the characterization is complete, you should be able to apply the motion data to your character. You can usually do this through the Plot options in MotionBuilder. Please note that the exact steps may vary depending on your character and the motion data, and it's crucial to have a compatible skeleton structure. Consult the documentation for both iPi Mocap Studio and MotionBuilder for detailed instructions, as they may provide specific guidelines for this process. If you encounter any specific issues or need more detailed guidance, consider reaching out to the support or community forums of both iPi Mocap Studio and MotionBuilder for expert assistance. Best of luck with your project! Sincerely, [petroben] |
