Hi iPiSoft'ers

I want to ask and discuss about some tweaking that may increase the speed and quality of the tracking. I hope that it will make tracking process more accurate and faster.

First about adjustment between frame rate and exposure setting. Which will give better and faster result, 25 fps with good exposure or 30 fps with slightly worse exposure? Will increasing contrast setting give better result although the quality of the image more roughly looking? From my opinion, 25 fps with best exposure and increasing contrast parameter will give best result. But I never doing all of this comparation. It seems that the speed of tracking is too long so that 25 fps will give enough time to make more tweaking.

Second, the most problematic area after calibration is the position and the colour of the hand. I have make correct hand position like the example in the manual, and I have rotate the hand position of the Actor model at the first region of interest, but many tracking frame has been lost in the area of hand! I want to know if I am using sarung tangan with special colour (such as pink), will it give better tracking?

Third, I want to know about the best lighting of the room. Are there any kind of lighting which can give best result for motion capture? May be if you can show the diagram of the position of light bulb at the room. Or are there any sites in the internet which can give detail description about the lighting in the room?

Fourth, I cannot find any explanation about the parameter of Blur Trajectories and Smooth Trajectories in the manual. Are there any specific function of these parameters? In what situation these function could be used?

Fifth, I think the most useful function that I cannot find in iPi Studio is Undo Function! Every good software should always have Undo Function to make tweaking more easier, especially in the Calibration Process.

Thank you very much for your opinion.

I am sorry for using Malay terminology "sarung tangan" for gloves. I think gloves will gives solid colour and will be better eliminate error in hand area. Thanks.

You should use the highest frame rate available. 30 FPS should give better results then 25 FPS.

Increased contrast can slightly improve results.

Yes, using bright-color gloves should significantly improve reliability of tracking. Please do not forget to enable support for gloves (turn off "Hands color same as face color" checkbox).

For best results, you need bright ambient lighting. That is, illumination should surround actor. In photographic terms, you should use soft lights / aim for high-key lighting:

Sorry, these are debug buttons, they will be removed in future versions. You do not need to use them.

Undo will be implemented in future versions.

Hi,

On the subject of brightly colored gloves, is it best to have both gloves the same color or each a different colors?

Both gloves should be same color.

Since we recommend black clothes for torso, gloves are only useful for dark-skinned persons. For light-skinned person, natural skin color is usually good enough to make hands distinguishable when hands are close to torso. When hands are far away from torso, the color of sleeves/arms is more important (there should be good contrast between sleeves color and background color).

Got it in v2.2.0.144.
