I bought a kinect but the drivers seem to be allover the place. Will ipi have their own drivers or will the be opensorce? Will there be two versions of the ipi recorded? One for PS3 cams and the other for Kinect? Will there be a recorder that will record both PS3 and Kinect?

Latest iPiRecorder (1.5.0.77) features beta support for Kinect through libusb drivers. To enable Kinect support, please uninstall previous version of iPiRecorder and install new version from iPiRecorderSetup.exe (from Downloads page on our website). In the future, we may support Kinect through PrimeSense's OpenNI drivers but we will need additional time to implement it.

Worked for me and my first impressions...

WICKED!! :)

Very quick and easy to get set up and results were out phenominally fast, I guess because there's less camera data to process and my GTX460 is doing it at 0.6fps.

The results are very fluid, i'm impressed. I did find that jitter removal is pretty much destorying everything and making it worse but this is very first impressions only, I haven't tweaked anything yet.

Downside... capturing with a laptop, where did my disk bandwidth go?! Typically this is about 300MB in about 10 seconds and the disk is struggling. I'll try an SSD on eSATA tomorrow.

Plus side... being able to capture with just one Kinect and a laptop, is HUGE.

Looking forward to playing with this more.

Cool! How is the feet sliding issue? The YouTube videos looked a little 'slippy' but of course that was the very first Kinect tests from a few months ago. I imagine it's been improved since then. :)

If I can get a hold of a Kinect, I'll give it a try with my old laptop; it would be nice to know I can go mobile if I had to.

I installed the Kinect recorder on my Qosimo. The recorder will capture a very few seconds of false-color video from the Kinect and then it hangs Win7 without an error message. It's a hard hang--the kind that requires rebooting.

Probably a bit slidey feet at the moment but then all my captures have a lot of foot movement at the moment, I haven't done anything particularly static where I need planted feet.

My needs are fairly simple and i'm enjoying the simplicty and speed of results compared to 6 cameras. Of course there are limitations but so far so good.

Loving it! just got my drivers worked out and did a rudimentary test. The results were great. Inevitable Arm/Leg occlusion, but as soon as two+ kinect support gets added it will be extremely accurate and fast. I'm calculating 2 frames a second and only using 60% of one of my gtx465's.

I found that Kinect instructions now appear in the Wiki, in particular: "Important! Initial two seconds of video should contain only background and static objects. Presence of actor or any moving objects in the initial two seconds of recorded video is unacceptable. It’s because initial seconds of video are used to calculate static background necessary to separate actor from other objects of 3D scene."

In my experience, being "live" in the field of view of the Kinect during the short startup period described here leads to the hard Windows crash I have reported.

OK. I uninstalled the Prime? drivers and reinstalled the ipi recorder. I been having problems where I just learning about the solutions the hard way. Unplugging my computer because of crashing. First, I'm using Vista. Even though when turning on my computer and getting a desktop I have learn that Vista hasn't fully loaded, causing IPI recorder to crash. So now a wait 2 minutes. I found to set the file to record to before I activate the Kinect, otherwise I get a slow response or crash. Next is IPI recorder setting for advance all need to be unchecked. No MPEG, NO Bayer. So I got one recording that I open into IPI studio. Also if IPI recorder hangs up, unplug the kinect. Also there is about 30 to 60second lag before IPI recorder recognizes the kinect, so give it some time.

One more thing IPI recorder defaults to PS3 cameras. Disconnect them when using the Kinect.

I will be testing more tomorrow.

We have published "Quick Start Guide with MS Kinect Sensor" in our wiki:

Hope, it'll help.
