Im considering buying the following rig: 6 cam USB 3.0 pcie card ssd Ocz vertex 2 (write 270 mbps) But my processor is an i7 930 quad core... so 4 cam@640*480*60fps or 6 cam@320*240*60fps? Or even 6 cam@640*480 but a lower frame rate? What about 5 cameras? If I overclock my processor should I get a sensible better capture performance? Thanks! |

iPi's official specs state you need a six-core system for six cameras, but some users (including myself) found that it's possible to get full res and speed from six cameras with an i7 quad-core if you're recording to a fast SSD. In my experience, the bottleneck is usually the connection between a storage device or the speed of the storage device itself. No guarantees of course but I think you'll be okay with what you're describing. Hope that helps. |

By the way, slightly lower FPS (like 50 frames per second or 40 frames per second) should also be very usable for most times of motions. cadu3d wrote: If I overclock my processor should I get a sensible better capture performance? Of course overclocking helps to achieve better compression performance. 20% higher clock should result in near 20% better compression performance. |
