Hi, yes I'm a newbie.
Unfortunetly my current laptop's GPU isnt advanced enough and I now must upgrade (SIGH MORE $).
I need something portable and have noticed some inexpensive laptops & Notebooks available but I want to make sure they have enough power.
I figured on one with as many cores as I have cameras (x4) probably a quad I5 or I7 with a gig of ram per core min.
Most Laptops I've seen use NVIDIA 525, 540 & 555 GPUs.

Does anyone have any experiance or suggestions, ie should I go for something gruntier?

Apologies if this is the wrong section for this question;)

A modern quad-core notebook should be good for video recording.

For video processing with our software you need an NVIDIA GeForce or AMD/ATI Radeon video card. (Since iPiStudio is a GPGPU application, that is it performs calculations on video card). Intel integrated graphics is not supported.

Please be aware that all notebook video cards are significantly slower then their desktop counterparts. Ideally, you would want to use a notebook for video recording and a desktop for video processing. For best processing speed in iPiStudio we recommend a desktop with a GeForce 580.

The following web site can be useful:

I guess I should have elaborated more (My Bad).

Yes I'm aware that going by the required specs the machines should be okay (DX11 & Shader 5.0)
but if using between 3-4 cameras would the quoted GPUs be enough?
-Considering they are designed to run at a lower power level.

I.E. what issues might I encounter, has anyone in this forum used similar hardware and had any issues?

I'm just trying to figure out the best bang for buck as once I make my purchase I'm stuck with whatever I get for the near future, whether it works or not.

Motion capture process with our software breaks down into two steps: video recording and video processing.

A modern quad-core notebook is expected to work well for video recording.

Your suggested notebook GPUs (NVIDIA 525, 540 & 555) are compatible with our software.

Compared to desktop PCs, any notebook is relatively slow when it comes to video processing in iPiStudio.

Nvidia GeForce 555M notebook video card is faster then many other notebook video cards, but still it is several times slower then a desktop video card like GeForce 580.

If you want absolutely best bang for the buck, you should use a desktop PC with GeForce 580.

If you want portability then you can use a notebook with Nvidia GeForce or ATI/AMD Radeon video card.
