Has anyone tried four cameras arranged in a circle?

Can this work OK? The usual setup seems to be in a semicircle. Would there not be enough coverage?

I tried it. I´m sure it run. But my records if i try this, was not good. But it was not a problem with the full circle record. I forgot to start with a clear backgorund ;).

You can do this but I found semi-circle works better with four cameras because there is more over-lap of visual data which can improve accuracy with the tracker. Six cameras is more suitable for full circle recording.

that's what I suspected about the coverage.
I'm sure I'll go to a six camera setup soon.

BTW, even a semi-circle coverage is pretty accurate for many actions. Obviously, six cameras is better but I've done complete 360 degree walks using a four camera semi-circle setup and got pretty good tracking results with minimal clean up required.

I did a 4 cam semicircle test shoot last week, which mainly served to point out problems,
like the actor putting her feet too close together in T pose. The calibration process worked fine, thanks to all the tutorials available.

Yesterday's kinnect captures have worked out really great, and my jittering is gone.

I think the more you work and experiment with ipi, the better it gets. I'll post some rendered results soon. This is the best piece of software I've found in years.

I imagine kinnect might increase in resolution in the future and work in multiple configurations, so this is just the beginning.

For T-Pose I found that standing with legs and parallel, feet apart and aligned under hips, works very well. In other words, the closer you are to the iPi rig's T-Pose, the better.

It's also good to stagger the heights of the cameras, maybe between four to eight feet. I can't really be too specific as this may depend on the size and shape of your shoot space.

And yes, like anything, you get better at this through practice. :)
