I just barely got a kinect and hooked it up to my pc. The green light on the adapter is on, but there is no activity on the kinect side of things. Is there a special adapter I need for the kinect, or am I just stupid?

If anyone can help me out I will be very thankful.

Hi,

Yes you need to have the adapter, but that should have came with the kinect camera, that is if you bought the kinect separate from the xbox.

If you got the kinect as part of the xbox bundle then no, you would not have the adapter that you need.

Also you might have to restart your computer once to recognize the driver.

Let me know of your success.

Thanks and Cheers

When mrbones talks about an adapter, he means a power adapter. The Kinect gets power from the XBOX, but if you are using it with a PC it has to get power from a wall outlet.

So I bought the kinect seperate and it had a two way spilt that turned into a wall power plug. I the split went to the kinect and then a usb drive. Plugged in the usb drvie, and then the power into the outlet, got a green light on the converter, but no light on the kinect?

I will try restarting my computer but I thought this should have worked?

If that's what you have, you don't need any other hardware. It should work.

However, you mention "usb drive" a couple times. I'm not sure what you mean. You should plug the Kinect usb cable into a usb port directly on your computer. Don't connect through a USB hub.

Also, you'd need a recent ipisoft application installed to have the Kinect driver installed.

Also, if you have an older version of iPi installed (from many months ago,) you should do a compete uninstall, including obsolete drivers which may interfere with new ones. Unfortunately is requires more than simply running the uninstaller. If this applies to you, there is specific info about how to do this in the wiki.
