Hi all that take the time to read this, I have spent the last three evenings after work attemtping to create a Calibration video and prerform some motion capture. Besides reading up on the Wiki and looking online for some support i am at a loss.

I am using an Alienware M11X R1 + Three PS3 Cameras and i have a loft space that besides some silly corners allows for more than thirteen foot squared ish. I am using a mini maglite in candle mode when calibrating.

Is there a straight forward non epic bullet point guide to get this to work? Also is there a way of testing if the Cameras are in the correct positions or far away enough from the Actor?

I have partially written a trilogey of which friends and family have said they would love to see visualized and i have always been a massive fan of cgi.

I am working on this project with my Girl friend who is computer savvy enough and a art student who wanst to take on the role of modeller.

If anyone would be willing to help us out it woulod be much appreciated as i Already have purchased everything to get this going and am investing is a huge rendering rig.

Thanks for taking the time to read this :D

Chris

Sorry i was overly excited to have finally registered on the site and didnt explain the issue.

Each time we record a calibration video using all tools in the guide the calibration markers are mostly red.
We have tried following the guide and there are too many things we are not sure of.

First off not sure if this matters but one of the three usb ports used for the ps3 cams no matter what cam we use changes clothing colours from black to Blue in the preview?

So we have tried calibrating a few times and keep getting more red than blue or green markers. We are both worried we maybe do not have the required distance from the cameras.

The other issue is when refitting and analyzing character model and change to another camera the model has moved. Should we fully refit and analyze the actor for each camera before moving onto the next camera view?

Sorry to come across as a complete noobersaurous rex lol

HA! Noobersaurous! That's great. What's the distance between your cameras from each other? An alienware computer should more than handle what you're doing. Are you plugging all of the cameras into the same usb port? If so you may want to switch that up. What are the heights of your cameras? If using three cams it's not a bad idea to have your left and right cams set about 4 feet and your center cam about 8 feet high. How fast are you moving the maglight? Take it slowly if you're not already. Also, calibration will always appear red at first until it's done reading the info, then it will turn green. I've always found calibration pretty straight forward - never had any red.

Keep us updated!

post a picture of your setup or maybe a video of your calibration attempt if you can. it can help the rest of us troubleshoot.
sometimes you can do everything right, but maybe you're getting reflected sunlight, or maybe there's a mirror, or something like it that can confuse or complicate the calibration process.

Thank you all for you help and advice, I am at work at the moment and when i get home i shall start gathering pics and what not. We have also been using stuff to stack the cameras as we have everything but the tripods. I am selling items to get them :D

To be honest re measuring i am not sure the space we are currently using is 13ft per camera to the actor.

We have space we can use i.e front room moved around or a Church that a friend looks after and will go over the guides agian when done.

I still get pics and a more detailed look at our setup and be back for assistance.

Thank you all very much :D
