Then I just plan on using remote desktop for starting and stopping the recording so that way I don't have to move the desktop out to the garage and back. Is this a viable solution?
That's an interesting idea. So are you thinking of operating the recording computer in the house from, say, a laptop in the garage? That sounds like a good idea assuming Remote Desktop won't interfere with the 'in-door' computer's capture processing. Have you tested this yet?
As for using the repeater cables, I use several myself and they do work very well. The longest single chain I've used is three cables long, but typically my chains are only one to two cables in length. Technically, you're supposed to be able to chain up to five cables in a single chain but I don't know if you can actually have six chains of five cables at the same time...that
might be asking too much. I think it will come down to just how long your extensions needs to be.
Sorry I don't actually have much useful advice to offer in this area but let me know how it works for you.
FYI, when I use iPi DMC with PS3 Eye cameras I have to physically move my desktop computer to my 'stage' location. I've got a system for being able to do this efficiently but it's still a pain. In general I try to do most of my captures with Kinect at home and save the PS3 Eye setup at my 'stage' for the really difficult stuff. :p
