So just a wondering question before I spend more money. I really don't want to have to drag my work station back and forth from the studio and my office. So I was wondering if you are able to record on one machine but then process it on a different one? Thinking I could hook up a solid state in hot swappable cage and then just move that back and forth from the studio.

Yes, you can do this. iPi Recorder (the capture program) has a very liberal license; you can install it and run it on any computer without dealing with activation/deactivation.

If you need to move iPi Studio (the tracking program) you need to deactivate your license first before you can activate it on a different computer. You need an internet connection on both computers to do this but you don't need to be connected to run the program on the computer where it's activated.

Some examples of how I use the software:

When I'm recording with PS3 Eye cameras, I lug my desktop computer to my 'stage' location because I need the horsepower and can't afford two computers like this one. If I could afford a dedicated 'Recorder' computer, I would leave it at the 'stage', and just move a hard disk and do my tracking at home on my main computer, which is absolutely allowed by the software license.

A better example is when I record at home using a single Kinect. With Kinect I record using an old laptop in the living room (or wherever) and then track the data using my main desktop computer in the computer room. All I move between them is the external hard drive with the recorded data.

Right now I'm working with the new dual Kinect setup, which changes things a bit for me. My laptop is not powerful enough to record with two Kinects, so I have to run USB repeater cables from my main computer in the computer room to the living room. To operate the software, I'm using a small Cintiq with a long video cable. I know this isn't what you're asking about but it's yet another possible configuration.

Later on I want to try an RDC connection to operate the software on my main computer using my tablet PC as the controller. It probably won't work but it's worth a shot.

Yet another workflow is that I do my 'heavy duty' tracking on my main computer at home in the evening, and then I will activate the software on my tablet PC so I can edit the 'first pass' tracking at work during my lunch break.

That's probably a lot more info than you really wanted but I hope this is helpful. :)
