You need 2 usb controllers that you can route 2 different usb ports to these usb controllers separately. i have a macbook pro i7 and hp laptop core 2 duo.

macbook pro has 2 usb ports and i use parallels for windows 7 x64. parallels generate 1 usb controller. so it is impossible to use it with mac book.

hp laptop has 4 usb ports and 2 usb controllers. it uses one controller for build in webcam and another for 4 usb ports. so i cannot use my laptop.

Solution :

i will buy a pcmcia express card for usb 3.0. i hope it will add a separate usb controller.

i search to find a way to add software usb controller emulator to connect one of usb ports to that controller. i am not sure if it is possible. as i understand some usb devices has unique id and cannot run on the same controller not even on the same hub. if you have a desktop you are more lucky. front and rear connectors have different usb controller.

you can check all these on device manager by selecting View/Devices by connection then ACPI x64-based PC/ Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System/PCI bus/xxxx USB Enhanced Host Controller

Enhanced Host controller means usb 2.0. Universal host controller means usb 1.0. if i can convert second kinect connection to usb 1.0 it will connect to different usb connector(universal). in this case bandwith will be problem.

i hope this info is useful for you :-)

it added second usb controller to my hp laptop. unfortunately my 15'' i7 macbook pro has not express port. fortunately i have a second laptop :-) now it works.

now i can record 2 kinects and i have usb 3.0 ports on my laptop.

i will share my 2 kinects mocaps with ipi soft.

Congrats! Glad you got it working. :)

I tried to do the same but wasn't able to get dual Kinect Sensors to work with my old laptop...but I think the keyword there is 'old'. The dual system works remarkably well with my desktop though. (Thank goodness for 'daisy-chainable' repeater cables.)
