Post subject:  Does iPi work with the Kinect for Windows version?

Hello!

There has been some confusion about the two different Microsoft Kinect models:

The original "Kinect for xBox".
And the new "Kinect for Windows" Model #1517 $250.00

I purchased a Kinect for Windows from Microsoft to use with the Mocap plugin for Reallision. They advertised on their site that it would work with the Windows model, (they even had photo of the Windows one), but no, it actually only works with the Kinect for xBox (they don't seem to know the difference between the two).

So now I have a $250 Kinect that I would like to put to work. So the question is: will iPi mocap work with the new Kinect for Windows Model #1517? I'd love to get an answer before installing the trial version.

Thanks!

The latest version of iPiRecorder supports Kinect for Windows SDK:

It desirable but not required (MS drivers have priority).

Hi Andrew...from my experience ipi did NOT work when I had the primesense drivers installed along with the MS drivers, but that is when iPi only used primesense.

I also have not installed the latest ipisoft. Does the latest version of ipisoft recorder require the MS drivers and no longer uses primesense?

I use kinect with Iclone 5 ( only one kinect) and two kinects with IPI. I have found out that the best is to unistall NI, Primesense or previous versions or even the actual version of microsoft sdk1, restart the computer do a clean instal (sdk1 from microsoft) without the kinects been connected. Ipi recorder now recognizes my two kinect, I clone recognizes one kinect and every thing is fine :)

Rope it helps anyone.

Thanks! Now, is there ANY difference in quality of recording or quality of tracking with the new MS drivers (vs. the old Primsense)?

It looks that MS drivers are more stable (less frame drops, less issues with USB bandwidth). Recording and tracking are the same.

I have my "Business" Kinect (for windows 7, not xbox) working great with iClone. Unfortunately, they can only use one Kinect, so the results are wanting.

I'd like to try iPi, and I guess I'll just have to try this for myself, but my question is; can the iClone and iPi drivers / programs both work in the same computer? (at separate times, of course).

Reallusion uses its own Business Kinect drivers as does iPi, so I don't think they'll co-habitate peacefully, but I'll download the current iPi connect driver and test.

To update my above question: Can you install and run both iClone MoCap and iPi with a Kinect for Windows on the same computer (not at the same time, of course) and the answer is yes.

I set up my iClone MoCap with the latest patches and drivers, then downloaded and installed the iPi Recorder and iPi Trial and they both work fine.
