Hello,

I have 3 PS3 cameras that I want to position in a 10x10x9ft high room, can I put 1 in each corner, as high as I can (7ftish), and have one on the windowsill at similar height (6ftish)? The point being that all three would be positioned high. What would be ideal alternatives, I can move one corner higher or lower freely but the other and windowsill have to stay high.

thanks for any advice
AaronC

EDIT: Actually the middle one could go up to an 8ft high position if thats advisable?

I actually did this in one of my spare bedrooms with 4 cameras to see if it would work, and it doesn't do too bad.
You have to position the tallest camera in the farthest corner from where you will be performing. The other 2 cameras should be about 6 feet to the left and right at about 5 feet high. Make sure that the walls and floor is white and that you have decent lighting in the room.
The downside to this is that your performance space is REALLY limited; I'm talking 3 feet, and you are performing in a corner.

Good luck though!

This is just an opinion based on past experience: if you position all the cameras too high up you may be limiting visual coverage. For example, positioning all the camera too high may decrease accuracy of the leg motions. This system actually works better if the camera heights are staggered.

Of course it doesn't hurt to experiment. I would try out various placements and see what works best before permanently fixing the camera positions.

Greenlaw is absolutely right. Stagger the camera height as much as you can, perhaps one at 4 feet, one at 7 feet, and one at 5 feet. Like he said, play around with it until you get a system that works.

Thanks guys, I went with a staggered array in the end. Have just calibrated and figuring out software now.

So I have a tidied up calibration scene, and now I want to import a recorded video clip, into my calibration scene, but I don't see an import option, only an open one, which seems to close the existing scene.

What exactly do I do to get a calibration scene and a new clip together?

Thanks

AC

After running calibration with the calibration video, click the Save Scene button. This saves the calibrated camera positions that you will use for tracking.

When you're ready to track motion, load the first motion video into a new project. Then use the Load Scene button to load the calibration scene. This places your cameras where they should be when you shot the original video. Now you're ready to start tracking.

Further details can be found in the wiki.
