Hello,

When I was as Siggraph the rep from CamFx mentioned that with iPisoft 2.0 you can aim both Kinects directly at each other with no regard for the amount of yellow IR infrared interference seen in the depth channel. Is this true? I'm trying it now but there appears to be a lot of information lost around the edges of the person's depth cloud vs the old approach (when you try to avoid the two camera's IR from hitting each other).

This being said, you guys REALLY need some kind of cohesive and up-to-data help system or wiki that includes only the latest and correct instructions about the best way to use your software. There are too many outdated tutorials for v1.x and even those sometimes contradict one another. This is very cool software you are selling but the support seems very limited for a professional product.

Thanks,
Mitch

Hello, Mitch

You had a discussion with Andrew by email. I will add some extra points.

In first, James from CamVFX is selling. He's not diving into a big detail, but likes to say how simple is working with the software. I think his words about yellow noise were inspired mostly by our live demo setup at SIGGRAPH the Studio. We had 2 ASUS Xtions at 180 degrees, and the Studio was a big open space area. So we had much yellow data just because the background depth was out of range for Xtions. But tracking still worked good, and James was impressed and shared his impression with you.

In fact, from the point of tracking algorythm, all the data besides actor's figure is noise. For calibration algorythm, also the good image of the floor is needed to detect the ground plane. So you should not have much worry if you have static yellow areas in your view.
What gives camera's interference - is much dynamic yellow noise, also over actors's figure. And it's bad for tracking because introduces noise in useful data. So when you encounter this effect in your picture (usually in positions close to "face-to-face") you must slightly change the positions until the effect vanishes.

We have the wiki, if you did not see it. We try to keep information relevant.
Unfortunately, at this time we do not have much available resources to invest in documentation - our core focus is the software.
