Post subject:  Best cloth color combination

Hi,
id like to know if there is something like best color combination of cloths for mocap purposes.
Currently im trying combination of grey slim trousers, blue shoes, black long-sleeve shirt with white t-shirt over it.
But sometimes i got problems with hand and foot tracking, so im curious if there are some better combinations you using for that.

Thanks for advice.

Hey Michael

I did a video on this not too long ago, you can find it here

I hope that helps or at least gives you a good starting point!

Thank you so much. Your video was very helpful as you did that test before me. I will try similar color combinations of clothing.

For us, black shoes/socks would seem to work better than anything else we have tried. Maybe because our floor is greyish. Regular jeans have always been ok for legs, the only big problem is when they are too long and the pant legs have been turned and thus the leg color changes in ankle area.

The upper leg also tends to rotate too much in the bone x-axis (in Blender this would be called the bone roll), though. We haven't been able to solve this problem completely.

In the upper part of the body we use generally long sleeves (dark blue/black) and red t-shirt over it. Note that the long sleeves cannot be too long, hands must be seen clearly. I'd like to test gloves but haven't been able. We have white walls, and this is probably why the skin colour is problematic for us. We cannot seem to capture anything properly with just t-shirt on (bare arms). Oh, and make sure there aren't any logos or pictures in the t-shirt.

You could also use the "hide background" option in the iPiRecorder to check out whether there are problems with the capture area you are using. I would think that those big windows and cavities might be something to consider. We use sheets to cover those kind of things during the recording.

White t-shirt is not a good idea. Shadows are very visible on white and the system cannot model them (since it is very hard to model all lights).

You can have better results with blue or green or magenta or cyan t-shirt.

The same logic applies to shoes.

We have recommendations on colors in our wiki:

That is a fantastic point! I will avoid whites in the future!
