I want to use my kinect for windows and my kinect for XBox together. Is this possible without any problems?

Yes, this mixed setup should work fine. Some customers already use it.

Just to support what Vmaslov said, I used mixed sensors last week without trouble (well, with the sensors anyway.) We have two XBox Kinects that we use for iPi DMC, and one Windows Kinect that we use for 3D scanning and face capture experiments. Last week one of the XBox sensors died so I swapped it for the Windows version.

It works perfectly fine but I also discovered that the Windows Kinect has several RGB controls not available to XBox Kinect, and even without tweaking the Windows version has a much better RGB preview. This was enough to prompt us to get a second Windows Kinect and keep the remaining XBox Kinect as a backup.

(BTW, getting the broken Kinect repaired apparently costs as much much as buying a brand new one so we're probably not going to bother.)

I was wondering the same RGB controls could added to the XBox Kinect panel. Whe recording in the evening at home, the Autogain option alone, for example, makes a big difference in visibility on the Windows Kinect side of the panel--the XBox side is very dark and nearly unusable while the Windows side is very bright and clear. Having full image quality control over XBox RGB would also help users color match the two views when working with a mixed sensor configuration.

Having the controls is not a priority for me because we now have two Windows Kinects, but I'm sure there are users who will appreciate having this feature.

Of course, I can see where the added post processing might impact capture speed on the XBox side, so if implemented, maybe it should be optional.

Thanks for listening.

We had not implemented RGB settings for Kinect on our own. Just used the features provided by Kinect SDK. Unfortunately, it allows to control RGB settings for Kinect for Windows devices only, as Kinect for XBOX is not indented for use with PC.

Yes, I had assumed that. What I meant was could similar code be created for XBox to mimic the Windows version controls?

But please don't look into this now...it was just an idea and there's other stuff I'd like to see done first.

Thank you for taking the time to listen and respond. :)
