I did a bit of searching in the forums here and was wondering if there is a technical reason for the max number of ps3 cameras is set to 6. Is it correct to assume the camera limit is set at 6 due to computer bandwidth?

Indeed, the bandwidth limit is the main technical reason. Another, more practical reason is that we do not believe that further increasing the number of cameras will give any considerable improvement in the accuracy of tracking.
However, before you, other users have managed to set up recording from 8 cameras at 50fps. So, we have implemented an experimental support for up to 8 cameras. We do not include this in the official feature list because we have not thoroughly tested such configuration. But you are free to try it.

You may try to contact with the user who started this thread to discuss the usage of more than 6 cameras.
