Hi,

Since recording without compression (no background substraction, no jpeg compression) requires more horsepower from the computer, and gives bigger capture files, is it supposed to give better results as well?

Recording without compression requires less CPU power, but more storage speed and capacity.
Also, uncompressed depth image may give more accuracy near the floor. Because now the background subtraction algorithm tends to cut off much foot data when the foot is standing on the floor. We will try to reduce this issue in the next update of iPi Recorder.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to that update. I'm currently wearing hiking shoes or boots that give my feet more bulk and thicker soles that add elevation from the ground--this makes a big difference in feet tracking accuracy but it also stiffens my performance a little because of the extra bulk and weight.

Thanks for the reply. Fortunately for me, my system is capable of recording 6 cams without compression. I'll try that.

This cut-off issue is related only to depth data. For color data the actor clothes just need to be different enough in color from the surroundings.
PS Eye recordings will not get any additional accuracy from not compressing.

Hum, ok! So I'll keep the compression then! Thanks for the info.

Check it out in iPi Recorder 2.1.4.21.
If you are still experiencing feet cut-off with this release, try disable compression for depth data.
