i've got a few questions regarding the wiki entry about actor clothing: "Actor should be dressed in solid-color long-sleeve shirt", "iPi Desktop Motion Capture has an option of using T-shirt over long-sleeve shirt for actor clothing. However, simple long-sleeve shirt may result in more accurate motion capture." - isnt it much better to separate arms/torso to get contrasting colors for the body parts? "Recommended shoe color is black" - why that? i thought, because you constantly drop shadows on the floor, the system might have troubles to determine where the feet are, because the shadows underneath might increase the size of the black feet-area? thanks for your input! |

Of course, if the sleeve length of actor's T-shirt matches that length of the model in Studio, than you'll get more accurate tracking with T-shirt. But if the length differs considerably, than you'll get far worse results than with solid color sleeve. If later the T-shirt sleeve length parameter becomes adjustable, than using T-shirt will be recommended instead. Yes, shadows on the floor are the problem. And that's exactly why the black shoes are recommended. If the floor itself is not very dark than shadowed floor is different enough from the black shoes to get successfull feet tracking. But lighter color shoes greatly change their visible color because of shadows (in contrast to black). And that makes them totally invisible to tracking algorithm because of color mismatch. However, if you adjust model's shoes color in each section of video where they have distinct color caused by shadows, than you might get better tracking results. So those in wiki are general recommendations, working good for the most situations, a good way to start with. When you get accustomed to using the software, better understand how it works, you start to discover your own usage patterns. Specific environment settings depending on the motions, different processing settings for parts of the video etc. |
