Hi all,

Could someone out there please be kind enough to type out a quick step-by-step instruction as to how to connect 3xMove controllers in Ipi Recorder?

I've got a bluetooth USB bluetooth dongle adapter plugged in, 2 x Kinects plugged in.....and 3 x PS Move controllers waiting to be used, and I can't figure it out. I'm not used to using PC's (yes I'm a Mac boy)...and I don't want to lose any more hair trying to get this off the ground.

I thought iPi Recorder would just recognise the controllers but it's now asking me to plug them in. Well I can't cause I've only got 3 USB ports...and they're all used.

Grovel, grovel.....help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks everyone!

You can pair them one at a time. Just use a regular USB cable with a mini plug and run the wizard for one device--when you've completed it, unplug it and move on to the next one. Once paired, the controller does not need to be plugged in again except for recharging the battery or if you have switched the pairing to a game console or another computer.

If you only have three USB ports, unplug one of the Kinects. You don't need a Kinect plugged in to pair the handheld controller to the PC. Naturally, the Bluetooth adapter needs to be plugged in for pairing.

Hope this helps.

Yes, You only have to plug them in once for all three,
Use add new, plug it in via usb, then unplug it and press the button,
even if it says not connected go back anyways to the add new screen,
Usually it will pop up and show the controller is connected anyways.
Once connected, they will stay connected (paired until charge ware off)
So I suggest charging all three fully(about 2-3 hours), That should last a few or more days.
Depending on how capture you do, the Move controllers shut off automatically.

Also you can manually shut down the devices by holding down the move button for about 10 - 12 seconds (the light will go off.) It's a good idea to do this if you don't want to keep recharging the controllers. That said, the devices seem to hold their charge for a very long time.

When you power up the device again (just press the button briefly) you should not have to pair it again--the pairing should persist from session to session.

Thanks guys for stepping in there. I sucessfully paired all devices to Ipi Recorder this morning, and shot a few test sequences to test the controllers.

It takes a while to find the controllers, but I stuck with it.

Attached is a picture of my makeshift head controller 'device', made from the inside of a hardhat and it works perfectly as the straps are adjustable. Only cost me £4 from a local shop.

Oh, and I used a chinagraph pencil to label the hand controllers L and R, in case you have to put them down and you get them mixed up. That may not be necessary to the software, but I did it anyway.

Congratulations! Glad you got it up and running. :)

Yes, marking the devices is a good idea--I have mine marked similarly. This is especially convenient when you're recording in a different room because you won't have to keep checking to see which device belongs to which hand, and it will prevent any confusion during tracking.
