Hi, I'm new to Ipi Soft and I had a question regarding what kind of video card I can use. I currently have a HP pavilion p6754y, with Integrated graphics using ATI Radeon 4200. Is this ok for using 2 kinect sensors? I was thinking about upgrading my graphics with a NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS 1024MB DDR3 PCIe 2.0 x16 Video Card. Would that work also? Hello We have no experience with integrated ATI/AMD graphics. Most probably, it is not supported, or has a very poor performance. Any modern $100 range video card is sufficient for processing dual Kinect videos at approx. 1-2 frames per second. Just check that your power supply (250W) can handle the card, or replace it also to a more powerful one. |

GS 8400 is a very old model--it came out in 2007, which makes it ancient by current Nvidia standards. IMO, this card is way too slow for mocap tracking. If you're going with Nvidia, I would upgrade to a more recent GTX card. Even the not-so-recent GTX 460, like the one I have, will perform many times faster than a GS 8400, and these days the 460 costs about $80-$100. (I think I paid about $180 for mine a couple of years ago.) But I would recommend going with a more recent GTX model if you can afford it. I would love to upgrade the one I have but my current desktop computer limits the what I can put into it and I'm not nearly as eager to replace my main work computer yet. :) Final word of advice: take your time researching the card specs before buying. Make sure you getting the most bang for your buck, but you must also be sure the card will be physically compatible with your current computer. Good luck finding something that works for you. G. |
