Post subject:  IPI recorder buffering

I'm trying out the IPI recorder for the first time.

I noticed it only allows for about two minutes of footage and then it tries to buffer. I often get an error unless I stop it before it reaches the maximum buffer.

Is there a setting for this? Or a way to control when it buffers?

That sounds like your hardware isn't able to keep up. Look towards that area or record to SSD as possibly a quick fix.

+1 on the SSD. Installing an SSD dedicated for capture made a huge difference in improving data flow for my system--never a dropped frame now.

iPi Recorder always buffers while recording. You should watch that buffer is not overflowed (in normal conditions it always looks empty). Buffer overflow signals that some component of recording pipeline is not powerful enough - either CPU (gathering and encoding camera data) or disk (writing the data).

You can also use a RAM drive as a cheap alternative (with less size) to SSD suggested above.

OK... It may be my laptop HD is just too slow... I'll perhaps try three cameras instead of four and then see what results I get.

Also try an external HD too.
