All right, I am going to pick up this software soon, but does it work with the new Kinect for Windows or does it have to be a Kinect for 360? I cannot figure out how to get the Kinect for Windows to work with this program. Drivers don't seem to install and it is starting to get frustrating. I want this program, but if I spend the 600 bucks on it and cannot get it to work, I'm out a bit of cash.

So, basically, does anyone have a sure way to get the Kinects to work. I have tried the iPiRecorder and iPiRecorder2, neither work. I have installed, uninstalled many, many times hoping that one time it will work, but no luck.

Any help would be pretty great!

Currently, either model of Kinect works with iPi Mocap Studio. I recommend Kinect for Windows--you have more features available with the Windows version and it has official driver support from Microsoft for use with a PC running Windows. Kinect for XBox will also work with a PC but the drivers are not officially supported by Microsoft so there's no guarantee that it will continue to work in the future.

As for why the software doesn't work with your computer, if you don't post any specifications about your hardware and OS, there is no way anybody can troubleshoot this for you. Just saying it won't install isn't much info to go on.

That said, if you have a quad core desktop computer running Windows 7, an adequate number of compatible USB controllers and a decent graphics card (Geforce GTX preferred,) you should be good. While it's certainly possible to run with a lesser configuration, performance may suffer. Check the wiki for details and compare your gear against the recommended specs.

If you meet the criteria and still have trouble installing and/or running, there might be a driver conflict. If you previously installed another Kinect driver, I would remove this other driver, remove iPi Mocap Studio (if any part of it installed previously,) reboot, and then run the iPi Mocap Studio installer again.

Hope this helps. FWIW, if your computer is compatible, the software should install easily without problems. Good luck!
