Post subject:  Apple Kills OpenNI?

I came across this thread while perusing the community of OpenNI and I was quite shocked. What does this mean for ipiSoft's future in terms of hardware selection? Do take the time and read the link if you haven't found out about this yet. http://community.openni.org/openni/topi ... _of_openni

Please share your thoughts as usual :D

We were aware of the acquisition for some time, but the consequences were not clear at the first moment.
Now it sounds like the upcoming Kinect 2 for Windows will be the only widely available depth sensor for our software in the near time. Of course, we are constantly looking for newly emerging devices which can be employed for mocap purposes.

Hmm...I was afraid that was going to happen. Makes me glad I didn't buy a Carmine device now.

But I'm hopeful for the future...the iPi Soft guys are obviously very smart and good at adopting and adapting to new technologies as they become available.

These news do not mean that we are going to drop the support for OpenNI-compatible devices (Carmine and Xtion). I'd rather say that those are lucky who have got Carmine before they stop selling it, because these are probably the best depth sensors till Kinect 2 release.

Of course your right. I know the current drivers will continue to work with current devices in iPi Mocap Studio. To be completely honest, I wish I had purchased a Carmine. But I can't now. And, yes, I'm eating sour grapes. :)

Never the less, I'm looking forward to what you guys have in store for 2014.
