I have several cameras of different types(iPod, Digital Camera, Mobile Phone) that cannot be connected to a computer for live streaming. But I can record video files with them. How do I load videofiles into iPi Recorder to synchronize them und use them in iPi Mocap Studio? |

To be frank, you may be creating a ton of extra work for yourself in trying to conform the various data sources, and then there are no guarantees that it will work because of the questionable video quality. If your time is worth anything, I think it would be much cheaper and more efficient to just purchase the recommended PS3 Eye cameras or Kinect for Windows sensors. But if you really want to do this, you'll probably want to use a compositing program to match the footage in color, dimensions, and time, and lay out the multiple video screens to fit iPi Soft video specs, and output a compatible video format. FYI, you can do this for iPi Desktop Motion Capture but I don't think you can do this directly for iPi Mocap Studio. However, you might be able to create a conformed video file for iPi DMC and then use iPi Recorder 2 to convert the video file for iPi Mocap Studio. Personally, that sounds like way too much effort for little to no benefit, and I wouldn't bother with it. G. |

PS3 eye is just a camera for 640x480 pixels recording - talking about resolution issues. I came to the conclusion that I need software for emulating multiple video sources, so I can feed each videosource with a video. |

I see. According to iPi Soft, higher framerate is actually more important for accuracy than resolution but I imagine resolution becomes important if you want to increase the size of the capture area. Is this what you're wanting to do? (FYI, framerate is important because you want to capture as much motion data as possible for fast motions while minimizing motion blur. And while higher resolution should result in higher res volume but I don't think the extra volume detail necessarily translates as more accurate motion. However, higher resolution can certainly mean better accuracy for actors that are far away from a camera.) Anyway, as mentioned above, you can assemble footage from different cameras using a compositing program like After Effects. I recall 1k0 did this a few years ago to conform footage shot with two different Panasonic DSLR cameras and a single PS3 Eye camera. You can see the results here: Danse Kabyle - Making of, part 1. Synchronizing the footage should be easy in a compositing program or video editor and I think the framerate may need be the same for each camera view. I suspect stretching lower framerate footage to match higher framerate footage may not be as successful as reducing high framerate footage to match lower. You mentioned iPod and mobile phone cameras. With these devices, I think you may run into into 'rolling shutter' issues when shooting at high resolution that could affect accuracy. Also, mounting these devices on a tripod may pose a small challenge. For these and other reasons, I think if you're going to go with an alternative device, it's probably best to use matching cameras. It's been a while since I've seen the topic of mixed video sources discussed but I believe if you do a search in these forums, you'll find other threads on this topic. Hope this info helps. Good luck! I'm very curious to hear how this goes. :) G. |

I realized that by simply putting 3 video files next to each other 3 cameras are being recognized. Now I am creating calibration videos. Let's see if three 2D-cameras are better than one kinect. Perfect would be connecting one kinect and one camcorder with 25 fps interlaced(ie effectively 50fps). But it seems that kinect video is not intended to be combined with normal video. What could work would be a depth map for kinect and a color recording for the camcorder ( and probably more cameras ). |
