Hi,

In my workplace I have access to ipi mocap studio v2. We bought it some time ago, but never really had chance to use it effectively in any project. Now we have a chance to incorporate ipi in our pipeline. This made me want to ask a few questions about Mocap Studio 3 release. At the moment I have 30 days trial installed.

Question 1.

Both releases have 'Export' tab with 'target character' option and exactly same options as far as I can tell. To both of them I can import my custom rig.

However when I export from v3 I actually get animation exported on my target rig, while when I export from v2 I get animation exported on iPiMocap rig.

Is that how it is or I simply missed something?

I will probably ask a few more questions as I go, but for now I really would like to have that one clarified as I couldn't find anything in documentation myself.

Regards

When using the general export in v2, the behavior should be equivalent to v3.
However, v2 has a number of specific exports for various animations apps (3ds Max, Blender etc). When used, they effectively discard the imported rig and export one that is supported by corresponding app.
In v3 we tried to make this behavior more clear and replaced export for apps with built-in target rigs for apps.

Thank you for a quick reply vmaslov.
I knew I missed something. I was exporting fbx for maya, this is why I was getting ipimocap rig, but if I export 'General' fbx it export my custom rig with mesh. Thanks for clarifying this for me.

Question 2:

Are all updates for Mocap Studio 2 finished now? I mean both: new features and bugs/compatibility fixes.

Question 3:

Is there possibility in Mocap Studio (2;3;both) to change default settings when software start up.

I would like to have 'Show Depth from All Sensors' switched on and default height of an actor to be different and actors body size sliders set to different value (in most cases their is the same actor). I know I can save actor settings and load them, but I thought it would be nice to have them as a default. I would like to set Ps move as a default model for controller.

V2 is in the maintenance mode. That means it won't get new features, even minor ones. Compatibility with Windows versions past 8.1 is not guaranteed. But it will get fixes for newly discovered bugs (possibly excluding those having simple workarounds).

Currently there is no way to change the defaults.
We plan to add persistence for some settings in later releases (of V3). Thanks for your input regarding this matter.

Cool! Thanks. I hope this includes other areas of the prgrams like the Export panel. (I requested this in another thread.)

Keep up the great work guys! :)
