Hi there. I'm going well with my current project on a 6* PS Eye rig, and the tracking is really good, exceptional compared to when I first started doing this a few years back :) I am however experiencing an issue that I can't seem to iron out. I am very definitely standing up straight while performing the actions but the model seems to end up slouched no matter what I do. I'm in the process of uploading an example video, cal file, actor and project file etc. to a OneDrive location for you to see what you can do. I'm hoping it's just a factor of how I've set up the Actor. The OneDrive folder is here: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=B ... 2ciPiMocap While the video file slowly uploads over my crap connection, there are two screengrabs that show the issue - mocap_slouch_1 and mocap_slouch_2. You can see me in the first picture standing up straight, but the actor skeleton has a very bent spine. The second picture shows the actor fully, and his pelvis sticks out and the stomach slouches in. I've tried making the actor model shorter to encourage it to stretch out but all that happens is that he starts to stand in tiptoe! -Ian |

Hi Sorry for noting that, but on the video you definitely look a bit slouching in the area of shoulders/neck. That combined with a shirt slappy at the back leads to this confusion in tracking. Try wearing a tighter shirt. Also it seems that you may need to lower the ground a bit (using 'fine-tune ground plane' slider) when doing a calibration so that model's feet standing on the ground match the video better. |

Just wanted to jump in to thank you for adding the adjustable ground plane. That should make many 'leg' issues I ran into when the actor is near the floor go away or at least be more controllable. G. |

Thanks for noticing my bad posture :P I do try and stand up straight! I'll wear a tighter shirt and give that a go. Are you saying I need to lower the ground value in the scene file away from the actor? I'll give that a go as well, sounds promising. Any more detail on this? Greenlaw, sounds like you've used it to good effect, any hints like how far to move the ground plane? |

Woohoo! Just making the ground plane lower looks like it fixes the problem :) I'll try it on a few other obvioulsy problematic scenes but as a first test this is obviously better - and it also means I don't have to re-shoot any acting, I just have to reproc the existing footage :) An excellent fix, thank you very much! I shall also use a tighter (and longer, to avoid it untucking) shirt from now on as well, anything that can help the capture process. -Ian

Hi Ian, I'm glad that worked for you. How the bones in the rig collide with the performer's shape and the ground plane is a fundamental part of how the system works. We may not be able modify shape the performer's shape to alter the tracking results but being able to lower the ground can relieve some vertical compression on the rig and change how the rig bends. An even better solution would be to adjust individual body parts of the actor rig to better match the actual proportions of captured performer. We don't have that capability yet but iPi Soft did say they were working on a more configurable actor skeleton for a future release. Hopefully, that' not too far in the future. :) G. |
