Hi - thanks for adding the distributed recording feature it will allow us to increase our camera set up which I am excited to test. We have had some good success with a 4 camera set up in a semi-circle configuration to date. I am having some trouble connecting the master and slave computers - would appreciate any help, pretty new to this. I have one Windows machine and a Mac running Windows using Parallels. Both are receiving data from the cameras and I can progress to the Record tab on both. With the Windows machine as the master it can see the Mac advertising as a slave but cannot connect. With the Mac as the master it cannot find the WIndows machine as a slave. I have read through this document http://docs.ipisoft.com/Distributed_Recording (Thanks for this!!) and note the following things which may be causing it In slave mode the Mac shows the Network Adapter as Ethernet and the windows machine Wifi. Is there something I have to do in Parallels to set this as Wifi on the Mac? I'm not sure what programs may be using the Ports you reference in the documentation (31415 and 31416...Pi...lol). I tried running CurrPorts to see what was using this but it is not listed. Any thoughts on possible solutions? |

Hello Please provide the trace logs from both master and slave Recorders for both situations. You can open the Trace window with the button in the top-right corner. I suppose the problem is that when running in Parallels, Windows apps are connected to a virtual network adapter provided by Parallels environment, which is bridged with physical WiFi network. Thus, master and slave Recorders are actually in the different networks. To use Mac as a slave, you can try to set up port forwarding so that connections incoming to TCP ports 31415 and 31416 on Mac were mapped to a Parallels VM on it. To use it as a master, set up forwarding of broadcast UDP messages on port 15926. See Port forwarding section in Parallels user guide: http://download.parallels.com/desktop/v6/docs/en/Parallels_Desktop_Users_Guide/31974.htm Anyway, virtualizing environments are not recommended for running our software due to high performance requirements and greater likelihood of hardware problems. Booting directly to Windows via Bootcamp may be a simpler option. |

Hey there - thanks for the reply. I have attached the trace logs. They are grouped as follows Files 114547 & 114520 are with the Mac as the slave and the Windows machine master. Files 115827 & 115900 are with the Window machine as the slave and the Mac as master. I will try setting up the ports as you suggested as I agree with your hypothesis of what is wrong regarding the network connections. Thanks again Pabbers

Thanks for the logs. There's nothing contradicting my supposal. Besides, I see a large number of bad frames in the Mac logs which argues possible bandwidth problems with cameras. Have you tried local recording on the Mac? |
