Is it possible to use iPi on other computer? We tried to make setup recording and calibrating in studio on computer with cameras attached, and then I should check everything and export on other computer, but there it can't recognize files. I'm not sure is it because there is no cameras or is there any other problem?? Thansk |

... As far as I know... You would need to export to whatever computer the iPi program resides on firt, then you can either transfer files to another computer via external drive, transfer cable or move/save to a flash drive to open exported files on another computer for editing, or upload them to a cloud service for access by another computer, if thats where your 3D editing program resides. Is that what you want to know? That's for V2 or V3... Or buy a license to run iPi Studio on more than one computer, probably not a good alternative though for small operations. Cameras plugged into another computer only allows it to be used as a slave for distributed recording, (V3 only), all data must be saved on main computer where iPi program resides. You can record on another computer if you want, but those files would have to be transfered and opened in Studio only on the machine where iPi Studio program resides. Main computer/External drive has to retain any video or capture file, (any file ext.), you wish to open/re-open in the Studio, but can be saved to external or flash drives to save disk space, but should be large Gig drive/flash drives, or you will have many, many... and that's not the best procedure. (video file and motion file have to be on same computer to re-open, but should be able to be saved to different external/flash drives, or drives in general of the parent computer). If for some reason you wanted to re-add an animation file back into iPi Studio, you would need to plug the retaining external/flash drive, back into the main comp. or re-upload edited file back to a cloud service, (or use transfer cable), to download/open edited version back into iPi Studio, with add animation tool from the drop menu. An animation file (FBX, BVH) to open in iPi Studio, doesn't need the video or original capture file to open, but you may need to retarget the bones in drop list if it contains other than standard skeleton bones. See Wiki or search forum for more details on importing animations/skeletons. ... |

Thanks for answer, the problem is that we are recording in small studio where cameras are, but I'm working in the office on the other computer. So we tried to use trial version for recording it, and licensed version is in other computer where I'm working, so I can export as fbx. Saved scene is with .iPiMocapTrial extension, and I thought it should be open, but Mocap studio doesn't see it when I try to open scene, and can't figure out why. |

You can run Recorder on any computer. There is no license restriction for using Recorder on multiple computers. Some people keep Recorder on their main workstation and some also have it on a laptop so they can record in a remote location and track later in Mocap Studio at their base location. Mocap Studio, on the other hand, is locked to a specific machine and can be active on only one computer at a time. However, iPi Soft has made it easy to deactivate the license and reactivate it on another computer. I have to do this occasionally when I expect to be away from my home studio for a while and want to track some data while I'm away. You can deactivate your license from the menus. Data recorded on one computer should be compatible with software installed on another computer, assuming you're using the same versions. (v1, v2 or v3.) The Recorder software can convert versions but there are limitations. I'm not 100% certain but there is probably a restriction to prevent data saved from the full version of Mocap Studio (not Recorder) being used in the trial version of Mocap Studio, (or vice versa.) But if you deactivate your license on your current computer and activate it on the other one where you want to do your tracking, you should be okay. Hope this helps. G. |

... In first reply I meant "Save", not export, to the computer you recorded with, then send somehow, as I stated, to the computer the licensed version resides on. You did that? Seems you did in your statement. The Calib. Video and the Recorded action video? You need to run calibration from the calibration video first of all and Save the .iPiScene file. Once you have the calibration run successfully and correct. Then you have BOTH.. the action recording (.iPiVideo) and calibration (.iPiScene) files accessible on the computer you are trying to open it on. There is no trial for the recorder, it's just a .iPiVideo file and should open on a licensed V3 Studio version, if the video/calibration file is accessible on the same machine. You should select "New" and not "Open", if the file hasn't been opened and saved as a .iPiMotion file yet. Select the .iPiVideo action file you want to use, then add the .iPiScene file associated to video. ... |

Thanks a lot, it helped. I thought that I don't need video file after I finished tracking and saved scene, cause it's so big. |

... Ok, good, glad you got it. Yes, always need access on the same machine to the original video file/scene file or you can edit it in the recorder to remove some of the "junk" on the video and re-name/re- save as a smaller file to keep the original also, but you have to re-run it as another file and retrack it, as it will then be a completely different video file, still opens with same Scene file though. You should first Save an actor file from the T-pose from the original file and name it so you remember it goes with that recording session, or you will have to reset all the parameters of the actor each time. Once you save that, you don't need to have a T-pose on any edited video file, just line up the body parts close on the start frame and hit refit, may have to hit refit a few times to get best fit, but it will refit fine. Once all is good and you are comfortable with doing this, you don't really need the "original LARGE" file any longer and free up disk space. You can also when editing, re-save file in same compression, or in a different compression as JPG 80% or better and shrink file size even more, but don't go below 75% or may get more tracking errors. ... |
