I often loose the tracking of the hands when they are shadowed by the actors body, even if they are visible by the cameras. I use two Kinects so this shouldn't be a problem.

Is there some type of material I can use on the hands to diferentiate them from the rest of the body?

For example gloves?

Our tracker for depth sensors uses only depth data. And depth is treated equally for all materials except those which are not visible to depth sensor completely, for example highly reflective ones.
In order to improve the tracking quality I recommend you to consider:
  • more precise adjustment of the model in Mocap Studio to proportions of an actor (I see on the screenshot that the legs of the model are substantially thinner than the point cloud)
  • experiment with placement of the sensors and position of an actor to decrease occlusion issues

You probably know this but I just want to be sure: do you mean the part of the right arm that's 'disappeared' from view? You should be able to reveal the occluded region when you switch to the other camera. There is also an option to show both clouds merged as one. Visible or not, the 'hidden' cloud is still accounted for by the tracker.

If you really are talking about the hands or wrist rotations, iPi Motion Capture Studio doesn't track this without hand held motion controllers (PS Move or Wii Remotes.) Without the motion controllers, you will not get wrist rotations in your character unless you add them manually.

If you're talking about fingers, iPi Motion Studio does not track fingers. You can keyframe fingers using the hand poses system.
