I resently built a new rig for 3d animation and rendering, and everything seems to run so much faster than my last alienware rig. Maybe it is because of the skylake processor that I put in it. But anyway. I thought I would try Ipisoft on this new system. But just a side note, my budget at the time of my build only allowed me to get a GTX 960 4gb graphics card (I built it last year) and now I am about to upgrade my power supply and graphics card. either thinking about getting a founders 1080 or two 1060's. But after running some test on ipisoft with this rig. The processing goes by so fast that I don't have time to multi task with something else while IPIsoft is running. I know I will need the upgrades for other software. I am trying to get into gpu rendering. But I am wondering does anyone else on here really need high end gpu's for Ipisoft, or is it just to say how great your computer is? Because to be honest, if I wasn't going to use my computer for other things like adobe after effects, maya and premiere, I would think I didn't need an upgrade.

Depends on if you are processing PS Eyes, or other 2D camera recordings and how many used, or depth sensors and how many actors are being tracked at once.

With 6 - PS Eyes and just one actor, using integrated graphics, it would take hours to process just a 20 second video, even with the updated algorithm from iPi, if it didn't crash before it finished.

Most any Animation, CGI or VFX program would want a higher end graphics card anyway for better performance, just depends what you want to afford, but if the components aren't matched, you won't get optimal performance anyway, so just putting a high end card in an otherwise low end machine will limit the cards performance.

All comes down to what you use your machine for and how well you want it to perform under heavier load. (Note: Dual video cards are useless for AE, Premiere and other video editing software, research it before you go that route, better to have more DRAM for those programs).

For recording only with iPi, it doesn't take that powerful of a machine, the machine should have the required USB controllers needed, but also for Kinect X Box One, it has to be able to handle the sensor, not just any machine with a USB 3.0 controller will.

well the test that I was running was for 6 ps eyes, dual kinect 360, and dual kinect 2. I already know crossfire and sli are useless in video editing. but you can use multiple graphic cards to dedicate mabe one graphics card to render a premiere scene while the other renders a gpu based renderer in a 3d application in maya using something like furryball RT. I guess I already knew that people may have other different uses for their hardware besides Ipisoft. I just thought I would ask because I seen alot of comments in the past when people are talking about upgrading their graphics card, or asking what type of graphics card to get for Ipisoft. And after running my test, I feel as long as you don't get a generic video card that barely has a heat sink. You should be good on what ever you do on this program.

Probably, I guess depends on the fps processing speed you want, but yes, just about any dedicated graphics card will work with iPi.

I have a Broadwell 6800k OC to 3.8 GHz on an x-99 mobo and EVGA GTX 970 FTW, processing 6 PS Eyes on Low Res and all options maxed, OC 100 on the core only to run at 1530 MHz, I get one actor tracking at 2.70+/- .10 fps, on stock core clock it runs same settings at 2.35+/- .10 fps.

I could OC the CPU to max at 4.2 GHz and get a few more tenths of a frame out of it, but I don't want to.

Sure if use a dual card set up, you could split the processes, but the whole machine will get dragged down to compensate also.

I believe unless your config is designed for full usage of dual cards and playing high fps new gaming, 1 better video card beats dual any day, in my opinion, but there are systems running more lanes where dual cards could be beneficial, but I believe a Skylake i7 only has 20 lanes, so dual to me isn't worth the money.

I will be upgrading to a 1080 FTW as soon as I can get a deal on one.
