Post subject:  The Animator's Motion Capture Guide

I just finished reading The Animator's Motion Capture Guide: Organizing, Managing, Editing and I thought it was a great introduction to studio motion capture from a management point of view. The author talked a lot about planning and financial aspects of the motion capture process. He went through the entire workflow from concept to post capture processing and utilization. What isn't covered is the technical aspects of motion capture data and manipulation. But it does cover contracts and motion lists. He uses a game he was developing for a game company and goes through the corporate process. I was very surprised at the cost and the amount of motions required for the game. For his game they required 750 individual motions to be captured and processed. It was an eye opener for me. It was worth the cost of the book just for the information on planning and organizing the motions before the capture session and the tools he presents for accomplishing it. The book is currently out of print but you should be able to order a used copy. That's what I did.
