I built two of these and they work perfectly well. You can get the materials from your own local homedepot or any hardware store.

Just tape the webcam in place at the top with a clear tape and your all set.

You might not need to glue the pieces together to easily disassemble it for transport.

In case you need to balance it or keep it from wobbling and to place it firmly on the floor, I think a bagful of sand placed on the legs will help. This can be simply arranged by getting any plastic bag and filling it with sand.

Great DIY project! I'm going to have to make a few of these myself.

Most of the parts can be bought from a local hardware store, plus a few parts from specialty places like wheels from skate shops. The only rig I've made so far is the dolly, and it works very well. (I got my wheels from www.skates.com) The other rigs in this book look pretty interesting; there are instructions for building a crane, a balloon rig, and other handy rigs.

This design is no longer reliable to my standards. It has very poor stability issues especially if you use it on a wooden floor. The tremors from your footsteps will wobble this and I suspect it is the constant reason why my calibrations were not effective.

I am sorry about recommending you this. If you don't have tripods, what I did is I taped the cameras on the walls of my room. I am still about to see the results of this "taped-to-the-wall" method but I am confident it will work.
