If you have an iPad, here's a neat trick you may find useful:

I use a dual Kinect One (v2) setup for iPi Mocap Studio, with one sensor plugged into a Windows Tablet computer in the living room where I'm recording, and the second sensor plugged into a workstation in our computer room next door. To align the sensor connected to the remote workstation in the computer room, I have to adjust the device blindly and then glance awkwardly around the doorway into the computer room to see what the sensor is seeing on the workstation's computer screen.

In the past, I used a small Windows laptop with the free Team Viewer program installed to monitor the remote screen from my shoot space. Today, I wished I could have that back but, unfortunately, that laptop is no longer available for this purpose.

Lucky for me, a few months ago Team Viewer announced they now have an iOS app version of Team Viewer. Since I have an iPad, I decided to try it out.

Guess what? It works brilliantly! Here's what I see on the workstation screen in our computer room:

And here's what it looks like on my iPad screen:

The interactivity and refresh rate looks very good too. Surprisingly so, considering the iPad is not running Windows and it is connected by Wifi.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this idea with anybody who might find it useful. The Team Viewer app is still free for non-commercial use on Windows and iOS.

Good info for use with distributed recording, Kinect v2 or PS Eyes, especially when comps are in different rooms.

Wondering if without minimizing the iPad view, it affects the frame rates on Master, or slave comps?

I remember when I used the remote desktop with Kinect v2 dual, I would have to minimize the slave view to the taskbar to keep frame rates at normal 29-30 fps.

I tested team viewer and Windows RDP, because I didn't want to have to run 2 monitors, and it worked well for me with dual Kinect v2.

I will have to check and see if the team viewer app is available for Android devices also, which it probably is.

Thanks for the heads up on this.

Just to mention another very useful add-on to the Win 10 right-click context menu is this:

Quickly change power plan selection from the desktop right-click menu, for those that don't always want to run their processor at high performance setting, all the time, like me when it isn't needed.

Has an add and remove feature in the .zip file, so you can revert easily, if want to.

That's a good question. I only use the iPad for device setup and I switch the iPad off when I'm ready to go, so I haven't paid much attention to the iPad's potential impact on the workstation's recording performance. Maybe I can check on that this weekend.

Normally I use the Move controller to remote operate iPi Recorder, and I don't actually touch the Master computer unless I need to playback and check results. Also, lately, I've been using the Windows tablet computer in the living room as the Master so I'm not really going into the other room to deal with the workstation once it's set up.

(I'm also using the Windows tablet's built-in Bluetooth to record from the Move controllers, so I no longer need the dongle. Yes, that's right...my tablet computer is apparently more powerful than my workstation these days. Man, I REALLY need a new desktop.)

Oh OK, I just wondered, when I tried remote using just one monitor, I did have to minimize the slave window on the Master, or the frame rate was affected a lot.

The way you are using it as just a set up viewer of the Slave and then turning it off is probably the best way anyway.

I'll check since it could be useful for single computer use. That used to be my situation when I was using Kinect v1, and of course back when I use PS3 Eye.

For my current needs, I put the quality setting up high so I could see exactly what' on my desktop, but maybe downgrading some of Team Viewer's quality settings can make it run more efficiently so as not to interfere with framerate.
