I get the same error: cannot open video: incorrect video frame indexing when I try to open a file with the maximum compression.

I tried it on a new capture and also on the one I sent you. Both fail and crash iPi Studio.

I'm running a GTX-285 with 2GB, 24GB ECC RAM, dual Xeon, Win7-64 Pro.

It looks like some problem with video codecs in your systems. Can Windows Media Player play this videos?

It is very-very strange because Win7 has build-in support for MJPEG compression.

Yes, both Windows Media Player and VLC http://www.videolan.org/ can play the file. VLC will open the file if I double click on it, as I use that as the video and audio player instead of Windows Media Player.

It's recommended to install both versions: 32 bit and 64 bit. For iPi DMC it is important to have 32 bit version installed because iPi Studio is 32 bit application.

By the way, what version of Windows Media Player did you use to play video: 32 bit or 64 bit? By default win7 (even 64 bit) has only 32 bit version. And iPi Studio uses 32 bit version of Windows Media Player to deal with video files. But in your configuration you can have both versions. In this case it is important to make sure that video canbe played in the 32 bit version of Windows Media Player. 1. The file plays perfectly in Windows Media Player 32 bit (as it shows 32 in the task manager and I have not changed it to default to 64 bits).

2. I don't understand. You're saying that if it plays in Windows Media Player 32, that iPi should play it - as Windows Media Player uses the codec. How is another codec going to help? I really want to avoid installing anything unnecessary as that's just one more chance to get a virus or mess something up.

Can you add some debugging code with an exception handler to determine where things go wrong? Is iPi coded using .NET framework? I can send you some simple exception handler code that writes out to a .txt file.

Microsoft has their own extensive exception handler (it's an optional install and download, I'd have to look for it).

Can you please use GSpot http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ to open the video and see what codecs are used by your system for the problematic video. It is possible that you have some third-party codecs installed that cause the problem.

Let me think about that. As I said, I really hate installing small 3rd party stuff, as this box is just too important to let get infected or taken over by a root kit.

Could this be due to VLC http://www.videolan.org/ ?? I notice in another msg that Greenlaw was having problems saving, and he also uses VLC.

As it's a very popular player, you might want to insure compatibility with that. I have it as the default player for all movie file types.

BTW - I got 'too many connections' error msg for quite a while earlier today. Some potential users might be getting this error msg too and get discouraged?

GSpot is a highly respected application and is recommended by Microsoft: http://www.headbands.com/gspot/reviews/ ... index.html . You will not get any problems from GSpot. It is the only way to understand what happens with DirectShow codecs on your PC.

VLC absolutely cannot be the cause of the problem, because VLC is completely separate from DirectShow infrastructure. VLC has its own integrated codecs (non-DirectShow) and its own player.

The problem on your computer is most likely caused by some third-party DirectShow codec. The fastest way to find the problematic codec is to use GSpot to analyze the set of DirectShow codecs used by your PC for opening MJPEG videos.
