When I have a tracking failure, for example on the arms, what I do in order to correct it is I try to reanalyze actor appearances on the frame near where the start of the error began and track forward again. In this case it would be helpful: 1.) Track/analyze only on selected body parts. 2.) Eye Dropper tool to copy the exact color when manually changing actor appearance. Do I make sense? |

Just a few additional tips: The first thing I typically do is go to the first frame after the error where the tracking is good again (assuming it went back 'on track',) hit Refit Pose (and maybe alternate between Analyze Appearance and Refit Pose a couple of times,) and then track backwards through the error. Tracking backwards through an error can give DMC trajectory information that may be missing when it's only tracking fowards. This usually works perfectly for me, but of course the results will vary depending on the complexity of the motion and the quality of the footage. If there is still a problem, then I'll try tweaking the pose at the worst points of action, do a refit, and the track backwards and forwards from that frame. Occasionally you may run into errors that cannot be resolved in iPi DMC because of limitations put on the rig. Then you have two options: 1. Reshoot the motion and alter or avoid performing the action that causes a problem for DMC. ...or... 2. Use another program to correct the errors. A good example are the feet during the 'twist' action in my Deform Test video. To fix this, I used Motion Builder to kill the keyframes in the legs for that range of frames and then simply let the IK handle the leg animation for the duration of the twist. Using mocap on the upper body along and IK for the lower part of the rig helped the feet stayed locked forward and allowed the knees to bend credibly. Luckily, this was a rare error for me and fixing it turned out to be easy. (I'll post a video of the corrected mocap when I get a chance.) You can do this fix in other programs too; in Lightwave for example, you can use IK Boost to temporarily add IK to the legs and lock the feet, and then bake the IK motion driven by the upper body mocap into the leg joints. Unlike Motion Builder, where you can do this non-destructively in an animation layer, Lightwave's IK Boost will permanently overide your original data but if you're careful (i.e., save iterations often) the end result should be comparable. I'm not sure how to do this in other programs but I imagine there are similar methods available. G. |
