Hi The process of recording beginning with no actor in the video can be a pain in a small space, as its hard to get off-camera. If there was a "Begin recording in x seconds" option and maybe even an audio cue when x seconds had expired before recording, I could hit record, duck away from the keyboard out the door wait x seconds and then give the recorder the required initial few frames of empty scene nice and clean. I know this isn't the same thing but in the meantime you may find the following info useful or at least interesting: About a year or so ago some of us were experimenting with using the built-in Windows voice command feature to operate Recorder remotely. Basically, you can use a spoken command to toggle the keyboard's Spacebar to start and stop a recording. iPi Recorder automatically saves a file with a unique name so you don't need to supervise that. I tried this with the PS3 Eye cameras which has a built-in microphone and it seemed to work. I never implemented this trick on an actual shoot though. I'm not sure this trick works with Kinect. It might, just never tried it, and I'm not sure Kinect has a built-in microphone. If it doesn't, you may be able to use an external mic to receive the voice command. Another trick that I actually do use in production involves remote access software. My main computer is in a different room from where I do my recording, so when I'm setting up the Kinects I like to use my Tablet PC to monitor what's on the computer display in the other room. Having this wireless remote monitor helps me optimize my camera positions and capture space quickly and accurately. I found I can even operate iPi Recorder remotely this way, though I haven't found this necessary because I generally desire to be outside the room when I start a recording. The software I use called TeamViewer 7 and it's free for non-commerical use. G. |
